Windows Phone 7. We’ve spoken a lot about it of late. My personal feelings are that, after a Service Pack, this could shape up to be a rather brilliant OS in a few months time. We’re in the here and now though, and the fact that you can’t upload ringtones is a little shocking.

Step forward the lovely people at xda-developers who have spotted the fact that you can read and write to the ringtones directory. Well, when we say “you” we actually mean “Apps downloaded from the Marketplace” can write to the ringtone directory. We’re assuming that ringtones will have to be purchased from the Marketplace, or some lovely person will code something to let us access that special ringtones directory and send our own MP3’s across. Just give us a file manager. Go on.

Leaked: Official Facebook app from WinMo 6.5

Still searching for a decent Facebook application for your WinMo phone? Well, in case you’ve missed this, some developers at XDA have recently supplied a rather awesome Facebook app.

Now, apparently this app is actually made by Microsoft themselves and has been stripped from the yet-to-be-released version of Windows Mobile - 6.5 (Build 21169). That being said, this app is in fact a pre-release version with ‘many known bugs’ (though, I couldn’t personally tell you what those bugs are as I’ve not actually run in to any myself, but see the list of known problems after the jump). I can tell you, I’ve been using it for a bit now and I really love it!

[ad]

It’s got five different tabs:
Home – Where you can view your News Feed, Status Updates, and Updated Photos
Profile – Where you can view yours and others Wall, Info, & Photos
Friend – Graphical/Text list of all your friends & what they are doing
Inbox – Here you can view your Inbox, Outbox, Notifications, and Requests
Phonebook – This is a really cool feature where you can call any of your friends that have their phone numbers linked to there FB Profile.

You can poke, leave comments, view photo albums, upload pics/vid, and of course, update your status.

Current Know Issues:
1. Can not be installed to Storage Card*Fixed by new cab*
2. If not WWE Rom, install may be not be perfect
3. Login Info will NOT be saved even if “save info” is checked
4. Will not show friends ID if they are not one of your friends
5. First launch takes a while to cache all info(Not really a problem just fyi
6. Other small random odd & ins

Fixes/Workarounds:
1. New cab by Ather
2. Also fixed by new cab by Ather
3. Work Around, if you close with the X button(or other apps) instead of the “log out” your login info will be saved Thanks siemi1!
4. Seems to be on purpose by the app..gotta deal with it.
5. Not a problem to fix

Try it out and let us know what you think of it!

We all knew it would happen eventually – on January 22nd a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the HTC Fuze/Touch Pro was posted over at XDA Developers. Well, surprise surprise – XDA has received a legal complaint from Microsoft! XDA has, of course, pulled all the links for the cooked ROM as well as any other ROMs that are based on the yet-to-be-released operating system.

The e-mails sent to XDA Developers from Microsoft identify the site as ‘distributing unlicensed material and state’,

We hereby give notice of these activities to you and request that you take expeditious action to remove or disable access to the material described above, and thereby prevent the illegal reproduction and distribution of this copyright work(s) via your company’s network.

Have you been on the edge of your seat waiting for a good Windows Mobile Facebook app? Well wait no more – it’s here… sort of!

It seems the Facebook app that is intended to be released with the new Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade has been extracted from the firmware and is now available for use with Windows Mobile 6.1 devices!

So as always with these kinds of applications, the download comes from the XDA-Developers forum. And, though everything should be just fine with this download, you are downloading at your own risk. That being said, enjoy!

I’ve scoured and found sixteen of the coolest and most useful tweaks for the HTC Touch Diamond. Want to know how to boost the TouchFLO 3D performance? Want to know how to enable GPS photos?

[ad]

1. Boost TFL3D Performance –> Using Advanced Config, change File system cache to 8mb and file system filter cache to 131072

2. Boost TFL3D Performance –> HKLM\System\Storagemanager\Fatfs and change key Cachesize from 16384 to 32768

3. Wake Up on New SMS –> HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL : DisableSMSWakeUpEvent <-- set to "1" by default. Change value to "0"

4. Switch Mute Call on phone flipped face down: HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : FaceDownMuteRing: change value to "0"

5. Change CallWaiting Tone --> HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : by default set to \windows\waitingtone.wav by default. change to anything else

    6. Boost TFL3D Scrolling Speed –> – HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 16384 or 32768 (DWORD decimal) – To change it back to the default: – HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 8192 (DWORD decimal)

7. In case of emergency, to do a Hard Reset, with the phone ON, hold down the Volume Down and Enter (round navigation) keys and press soft reset while they are pressed

8. Prevent screen switching off during phone call –> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)

9. Downlod original CONTENT folder (Wallpaper, VIDEO, MUSIC) here http://rapidshare.com/files/12127104…orage.rar.html

10. Set HTC Album X button to close not minimize: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum : ok_minimize change value to 0

11. Disable Enlarged Title bar (when you click on a notification) to the default WM behavior: HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar – and change “Enable” from 1 to 0.

12. Turn off startup aninmation and sound: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\ -> rename both “StartupGif” and “StartupWav” to other names

13. Enable GPS photo: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P10 -> change the value “enabled” from 0 to 1

15. Another supposed TFL3D tweak for better performance: HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings: SpeedHigh: default value (25) <-- Change to (5) / SpeedLow : default value (70) <-- Change to (14) save and soft reset

16. Adjust screen sensitivity: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel Value = PressureThreshold Change from the default dword:00000027 or 34 to dword:000000f0 or 240 in decimal

How-to: Getting Internet Sharing to work on your AT&T Fuze, Sprint Touch Pro, HTC Touch Diamond, and Samsung Epix!

Two awesome hacks from XDA-Developers in one day! Woo hoo!

This time one that allows you to ‘enable’ (read: re-enable) Internet Sharing on your HTC Touch Diamond, Sprint Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro) and the Samsung Epix!

Now, this is a registry key edit so use at your own risk as we’re never 100% sure of how these things will turn out sometimes.. but if you’re desperate for Internet Sharing (or brave and up for a challenge) try out this trick…

[ad]

First off, you’ll need a registry editor like Total Commander. Then you’ll need to delete the entire key, not just the value, which does something different depending on the value assigned) in this modification. You will want to delete ForceCellConnection, which is found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings.

Restart your device and… voila! Let us know how it works out for you!

The good folks over at XDA-Developers have created a hack that brings full TouchFLO 3D capabilities to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1! TouchFLO 3D on the Xperia means a more finger-friendly UI, YouTube usability and a ton of other awesome enhancements.

If you’re an Xperia user, I suggest heading over to the XDA-Developers thread now and downloading this for yourself!
