The Games Hub with Xbox Live integration has been widely recognized as one of the biggest Windows Phone 7 advantages over its rivals. That being said, the platform will need some great games to attract and appease demanding consumers. IGN has begun to provide reviews of some of the first games to hit the platform. Specifically, they have reviewed Earthworm Jim, de Blob: Revolution, CarneyVale Showtime, and Glow Artisan. IGN will be adding reviews each day as the launch approaches.

If you’re one of the unlucky ones who did not get a review unit nor were given a LG Quantum at PDC 10 nor do you live in Europe, then like me, you are waiting for the 8th of November.
You can kill some of the wait time browsing through Bing’s Visual Search for Windows Phone 7 and other phone platforms. If your country preference is set to the US, you should see the 5 phones that will be available.

The use of Pivots makes browsing the phone catalog quite fun. You can fine tune your search preferences based on brands, carriers, form styles, features and of course Operating Systems. I’ve been looking around Visual Search making myself feel good that I shall soon own a Samsung Focus.

This isn’t going to be a story about Microsoft’s return to dominance. Nor is it going to be the story of Microsoft’s failure to compete in the smartphone space. These mobile wars have only just begun and despite the advantage enjoyed by Apple and Google, there is no end in sight. In another twelve months we will see fierce competition from HP, Microsoft and Nokia. There’s a lot at stake, and no company is willing to give up the opportunity to own the next-PC market without a hell of a fight. Today is the beginning of Microsoft’s fight.
By now most of the Windows Phone 7 reviews have hit the web, but one more can’t hurt. Anandtech has an exhaustive review of the operating system, with lots of great photos to satiate your thirst for Windows Phone 7 news until the US launch next week. Hit the link for the full review.

“November 8th is fast approaching and to kick off on the celebration Microsoft and AT&T are giving thousands of music fans the chance to see free concerts from Katy Perry in New York City and Maroon 5 in San Francisco…Also marking Windows Phone 7 availability in the U.S., Rob Dyrdek and Minka Kelly will race across the country on the Really Rally Road Trip, challenging people to change their relationship with the mobile phone.”
You’ll have to pop into certain AT&T stores to get a chance at tickets. Which ones will be announced via the Windows Phone 7 Faceboook page. I’m wondering how fast Rob and Minka have drive to get from NYC to SF in time for the concert – best I can figure is between an average of 110-130 mph. That’s a lot of speeding tickets :).

Todd Brix over at the Windows Phone Developer Blog has posted some information about the most recent updates to the app certification requirements. Of note are requirements that the app size be less than 225MB (down from 400MB), and information about apps that can run under the lock screen. The latter requirement is relevant for apps such as Pandora that you would run while the screen was off. Applications currently in the marketplace will be subject to the changes the next they are submitted for an update. Hit the link for more information and a link to the certification requirements document.

Adobe has reconfirmed that it will be developing Flash Player 10.1 for Windows Phone 7. This is great news for those who are dependent on flash heavy web sites, but it remains to be seen how well the player will run. Many other developers have decided to hold off developing software for the platform due to restricted access to low level system functions, and there have been no announcements whether Microsoft has been working closely to ensure the player runs smoothly. Hopefully this is the case, because a smooth running flash player is just of on the many deficiencies currently facing the platform. Adobe has not committed to a specific release date for the player.

UK network Three sell most of their phones on PAYG as well as contract options which is great for anyone who likes the benefits of a sim only package but buy a phone of your choice.
On passing a nearby Three store today I spotted that the Samsung Omnia 7 is also on offer costing £449.99 (as was the HTC Desire HD) which does sound a lot for a phone but when you consider at the moment most Windows Phone 7 devices are contract only with the HTC HD7 being the only other PAYG offering on O2 it is not actually that bad.
Three does not offer this handset on PAYG online yet and you might find some stores try to hold onto stock for a full contract but the pricing is there and the handset is available if you can find a store to sell one to you.
So now who would consider a 12 month sim only ‘One Plan’ for only £25 a month and buying one of these handsets outright?

Arne from theunwired.net has taken a screwdriver to his brand new HTC HD7 and found a microSD card lurking underneath. Microsoft really don’t want you trying to swap these things out and, luckily for UK customers, o2 are sticking a 16GB microSD card in theirs. Microsoft state that microSD cards perform in very different ways with most cards being of “poor quality”.
So yes, there’s probably a microSD card hiding in your Windows Phone 7 phone somewhere and yes, if you’re extremely lucky you might be able to replace it without butchering your phone and bricking the OS. However, Microsoft say no, and we’d have to agree unless you fancy attacking your very expensive new Windows Phone with a knife and some tools, only to end up with a dead phone that won’t boot.

“One of the limitations of Windows Phone 7 is, that Microsoft’s new mobile OS isn’t supporting user removable flash memory like microSD cards, as supported by Windows Mobile, but Windows Phone 7 uses embedded memory like Apple’s iPhone does…However, even if Windows Phone 7 isn’t featuring a customer swappable flash memory, it seems that some handset manufactures are using micro SD cards anyway.”

Even though Microsoft has mandated non-swappable storage, you can still upgrade a WP7 device’s storage capacity if it has a MicroSD slot – if you don’t mind having to factory-reset your phone. the::unwired.net takes a stab at the process, and though it’s not as trouble-free as it could be, Arne shows that it can be done.
