Google are now rolling out an update for Google Talk which will allow free video chat over both WiFi and 3G/4G data connection.
Google have a video below explaining more detail on how it will work. This will be launching on the Nexus S first with other Android 2.3 devices later on.
Sometimes, the expressions on a person’s face can mean much more than what they say. To help you stay in touch with your friends and family, we’re launching Google Talk with video and voice chat for Android phones.
You can now video or voice chat with your friends, family and colleagues right from your Android phone, whether they’re on their compatible Android tablet or phone, or using Gmail with Google Talk on their computer. You can make calls over a 3G or 4G data network (if your carrier supports it) or over Wi-Fi
In your Google Talk friends list, a video or voice chat button will appear next to your contacts and you can simply touch the button to connect with them. Any text chats from the person you’re talking with will be overlaid on your phone’s screen so you can read them without having to leave the video. And, if you need to check something else, the video pauses automatically so you can go back to your phone’s home screen or another app. The audio will keep going even though the video has paused. Check out how this works:
Google Talk with video and voice chat will gradually roll out to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and will launch on other Android 2.3+ devices in the future. To learn more about
“No doubt, one of the coolest features of Windows Phone 7 and the companion Zune Desktop software is the ability to sync wirelessly. For years we’ve had to endure tethering our devices to our computers, loose USB wires everywhere, etc. (Even more ironic is you remember wireless syncing in ActiveSync before they removed it).”
Microsoft may have taken WiFi synching out of ActiveSync a few years back, but it’s been re-introduced on the back of the Zune desktop service – which is no surprise given that the Zune has been able to do a WiFi sync for a couple of years now. I didn’t get a chance to test this with my Windows Phone 7 device – which, boo hoo, has now been sent back to Microsoft – but with my Zune HD is works really nicely so I’d expect it to be the same with Windows Phone 7. Read on for more on how this feature works, and how to set it up.
“In addition, the tipster also provided a full spec sheet confirming a 1GHz processor, 8GB of storage, a 5 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, quad-band radio frequencies, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and more. More interestingly, in one of the leaked documents, there is also mention of “Dolby Mobile Sound”.”
My my. Wouldn’t this smartphone be a nice companion. Although the HTC HD7 has been widely leaked in these days leading up to the launch of Windows Phone 7, every time we get to see it in a new perspective it looks better and better. TmoNews certainly seems to like what they see, and I agree. Wonder if we will actually get this in North America?

Some folks over at XDA have found a hidden registry setting on the HTC HD2 that seems to prove the device supports the latest draft of the “N” WiFi standard. Inside of “HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Params”, you’ll find “11nModeDisable”… change this from 1 to 0 and it activates the WiFi N support.
They say it’s tested, so go for it and report back!
A little article at msmobiles caught my eye: It turns out Orange UK is sending small bits of info over UMTS even when users are using WiFi to browse the web…
Although Windows Mobile phones have WiFi and allow you to connect to WiFi, they (i.e. Orange) are actually sending some data through their UMTS connection and charging for all of it. So, you could be sat at home, downloading email or streaming music off your own computer and Orange are secretly cashing in. Interestingly if you burn into your Windows Mobile phone a ROM image that is not coming from Orange, then this problem is no longer occurring.
Irritated that Windows Mobile removes your WiFi settings? WiFi Hero to the rescue. Never lose your WiFi passwords again! WiFi Hero allows you to quickly save and restore your WiFi access point settings.
Is LG working on new Windows Mobile phone? According to rumours, the new device — the GW610 — will feature a 2MP camera and 3G support though not much else is known about the mysterious phone.
One thing we do know is that it will include WiFi support for high-speed data connections, as the GW610 was originally discovered by Cellpassion.mobi in an interoperability certificate.
The Samsung SWD-M100 WiMAX MID that was paraded around at the Mobile World Conference was accidentally named earlier today in a post via Samsung’s RSS feed.
The now named Samsung Mondi features a 4.3 inch touchscreen, slide out QWERTY, and — brace yourself — 4G WiMAX via the Clear network (US only, booo!).
Though we don’t know of any of the other specs of the Mondi, we do know that it will be running WinMo, has two cameras (front/back 0.3 and 3 MP respectively), bluetooth, WiFi, the Opera browser, and a microSD slot.
UK’s O2 has just launched the XDA Flint – an out-of-the-ordinary Windows Mobile device that’s sure to catch your eye. Sure, we’ve seen it before in the HTC Advantage, but it’s worth singling out again.
[ad]
The XDA Flint has 16GB of flash storage, GGSM/GPRS/EDGE compatibility, WiFi, Bluetooth, dual cameras (3mp and VGA), video output, and an ATI graphics chip. It’s is driven by a 624 mhz processor with 256mb of ROM and 128mb of RAM. The XDA Flint is also GPS-enabled (reportedly through a SiRF StarIII chipset) dual speakers and, yes, a 3.5mm audio jack.
Even though it packs all that, it’s still only 4.5 x 3.9 x .06 inches and weighs only 13.2 ounces but in comparison to the HTC Touch Pro (4.02 x 2.01 x .71, 5.82 ounces), this thing is a beast!
This sleek little phone comes out of Russia from RoverPC and features 3G, quadband GSM, WiFi, 624MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, mini USB and microSD slots, 3MP camera, GPS and an accelerometer.
The G7 will run Windows Mobile 6.1 will be available in Russia sometime this month for around $616 – not too shabby, huh?
We at WindowsMobile Cool heard about this device at the end of last week, but we had no idea just how much hype this device would get!
Now, just so we’re clear, this isn’t a Windows Mobile device – but it’s still pretty rockin’! Check out these features: Touch display which slides and tilts to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, ssisted GPS, 5MP camera with dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss lens, 3G with HSDPA, WiFi, A2DP Bluetooth and 32GB of onboard memory, plus a slot for another 16GB via MicroSD card. Cool!
First user manuals and full spec sheets, now official press releases – Verizon Wireless‘ Samsung Omnia is getting a lot of time in the spotlight this week!
Are you a web-browsing-on-the-go kind of person like I am…right now? Well be sure to check out this free app!
WifiLocations is a simple program that will automatically activate WiFi on wifi enabled devices at user-specified locations. You DON’T need GPS! You can add your current location (according to the nearest GSM/UMTS-cellsites {not supported in some zones of the world}) as a location where wifi will be activated automatically. This is quite useful for people who want to activate voip over wifi whenever a wifi internet network is available.
Noteworthy: It will not start after installing the cab-file. You need to start it yourself. Before you can use the app, you’ll need to add locations… sorry – all the free-hotspot-searching is up to you!
The folks at pocketnow have just posted a video of their unboxing of the new and awesome LG Incite.
The LG Incite, as mentioned before, packs a 3″, wide QVGA resolution screen, an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, and of course, HSDPA, FM Radio, WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and all that. Strangely enough, like the HTC Touch HD, the Incite has no D-Pad, but a scrolling wheel on the side. I’m not sure how I feel about that, personally, but the folks at pocketnow find it to be a welcome addition.
As promised, we now have a date for the release of the super cool HTC MAX 4G: November 26th!
Why the excitement? Check this out: 800 x 480 screen, 8GB of on-board Flash, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE and… WiMAX SUPPORT! This will officially be the first GSM/WiMAX handset anywhere in the world!
So, what’s the catch? Oh sure, it’ll be available starting with November 26th, but only in Russia’s Yota network. So when do we get it? Huh, Bell? Telus? I’m looking at you, Rogers.
According to today’s Wall Street Journal, HP is getting ready to launch a brand new Communicator before the year’s end. Could this be the previously leaked HP OAK that we heard about at the beginning of this year?
From what I can tell, the HP OAK looks to be an HP touchscreen version of the HTC S710 (Vox) — with two keyboards (digital and side-sliding QWERTY). It’s rumoured to have HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth, running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
No more details are known about release date or price, but stay tuned!
phoneArena has just let me in on some late-breaking news given to them by an anonymous tipster about the HTC Touch Pro, Saga (CDMA version of the Epix), and Renown.
Looks like the Samsung Saga I770 (CDMA version of the Epix) can be ordered via the Internet and Telesales on Nov 14th for $199 with a 2-year contract (after $70 rebate). It features Dual-band CDMA, EVDO Rev A, Quad-band GSM, WiFi 802.11g/b, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, Office, Opera and IE Mobile, Bluetooth, 2.55″ 320×320 pixel display, 2MP camera, microSDHC support up to 16GB, and comes with a SIM card pre-installed. Included in the box are adapters for use with the wall charger in other countries. Hint hint. :)
Thank you, HTC gods, you have appeased me! Well, alright – mostly appeased me. I’ve been counting on HTC to deliver me a device to repair my crushed North American HTC Touch HD hopes and dreams and this might very well be salvation: 800 x 480 screen, 8GB of on-board Flash, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE and… WiMAX SUPPORT! This will officially be the first GSM/WiMAX handset anywhere in the world!
Reports have the HTC MAX 4G launching firs on Scartel’s Yota network in Russia where users will be able to make calls between MAX 4G devices over the WiMAX airwaves (using VoIP) automatically!
There’s crazy talk about this only being available in Russia… ever. And I’m going to dismiss that outright. Here’s hoping!
WindowsMobile Cool will be sure to keep you updated on this bad boy, you can count on it.
According to Engadget, HTC’s Touch HD now available in the UK for £514.99. We may never see it here in North America, but we’re still allowed to oooh and aaah about it, right? I’m gonna go right ahead and do that now…
Ooooooh…
3.5mm headphone jack, TouchFLO 3D, 390 mins of 3G talk and 450 hours of 3G standby
Aaaaaaah…
512MB of ROM, 288MB of RAM, 5MP camera, 800×480 touchscreen, WiFi, GPS
Okay, I’ll leave my fauning at that for now.
