Microsoft has posted a list of no-no’s for the Mobile Marketplace; 12 items that will get a developer’s app rejected or pulled from their app store.
Among the more interesting things, some of which we knew before:
- no competing app stores (i.e. Mobihand can’t distribute a WinMo app client through the Marketplace)
- no VOIP over carriers’ networks, although no mention of WiFi
- nothing that changes the default dialer, SMS, or MMS interface (interesting…)
- no changing the default browser, search client, or media player “on the device” (does this mean beloved apps like CorePlayer or PocketMusic? New browsers like Skyfire and Opera? I can’t imagine…)
This list really begs more questions than it answers and will surely be followed up by a more comprehensive distributor’s agreement of some kind. See the full list of faux-pas after the jump.

Are you a web-browsing-on-the-go kind of person like I am…right now? Well be sure to check out this free app!
WifiLocations is a simple program that will automatically activate WiFi on wifi enabled devices at user-specified locations. You DON’T need GPS! You can add your current location (according to the nearest GSM/UMTS-cellsites {not supported in some zones of the world}) as a location where wifi will be activated automatically. This is quite useful for people who want to activate voip over wifi whenever a wifi internet network is available.
Noteworthy: It will not start after installing the cab-file. You need to start it yourself. Before you can use the app, you’ll need to add locations… sorry – all the free-hotspot-searching is up to you!
Go on – grab the application right here now!
In case you’ve forgotten (I dare you to tell me you’re from Russia but have forgotten!), the HTC Max 4G will be available for the Russian WiMAX network “Scartel” (Yota) on November 26th it’ll be the worlds first ever integrated GSM / WiMAX handset. The network will enable a rich multimedia experience and a high quality telephone connection. It’s currently sitting on the HTC website just waiting its turn.
An official press release will full specs for this baby right here!

Thank you, HTC gods, you have appeased me! Well, alright – mostly appeased me. I’ve been counting on HTC to deliver me a device to repair my crushed North American HTC Touch HD hopes and dreams and this might very well be salvation: 800 x 480 screen, 8GB of on-board Flash, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE and… WiMAX SUPPORT! This will officially be the first GSM/WiMAX handset anywhere in the world!
Reports have the HTC MAX 4G launching firs on Scartel’s Yota network in Russia where users will be able to make calls between MAX 4G devices over the WiMAX airwaves (using VoIP) automatically!
There’s crazy talk about this only being available in Russia… ever. And I’m going to dismiss that outright. Here’s hoping!
WindowsMobile Cool will be sure to keep you updated on this bad boy, you can count on it.
