Windows Phone 7 Profile: the LG Quantum

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/…one/glance.aspx

“The LG Quantum offers a horizontal QWERTY keypad designed for productivity. The phone also includes DLNA multimedia sharing, an augmented reality application and voice recognition.”

The LG Quantum is a traditional-looking Windows Phone 7 device; LG didn’t go crazy with this design, but it looks solid and functional. It will be available from AT&T for $199 (presumably a contract price). The keyboard looks large and functional, though that’s always something that needs to be experienced in person to get a feel for.

  • 3.5″, 800×480 touchscreen
  • 119.5 mm x 59.5 mm x 15.22 mm185g
  • 16GB internal storage
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8650 1 GHz
  • Battery life – Talk time: 7 hrs/Standby: 466 hrs
  • 5MP camera / 720p HD video
  • Horizontal qwerty
  • DLNA
  • Augmented Reality
  • Speech to text

More (and BIG) photos after the break.

Everything Everywhere cross-network roaming live today

So today, according to the Everything Everywhere announcement Orange and T-Mobile customers should be able to browse across both networks. It’s currently “voice only” but you’ll get data roaming soon too.

“From 5th October, 30 million customers – the combined customer base of Orange & T-Mobile in the UK – will be offered the opportunity to access both networks, enabling them to make calls and send texts in more places in the UK for no extra cost.”

Today is the day, so do let us know if it’s active and whether you’ve seen an improvement in signal. Don’t forget that you need to sign up at www.orange.co.uk/share or tmobile.co.uk/share depending on who you are with.

Walk-Through of Microsoft TellMe App

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/INyMBBGt6oQ" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

I just wrote up a post about the Samsung Intrepid launching on Sprint, and I noticed in the specs that it had Microsoft’s TellMe service right on-board. For those of you not in-the-know, Microsoft TellMe is a voice app that lets you interact with your Windows Phone entirely by talking and being spoken to by your phone. As you can see in this video, it mimics other services that are available on other platforms (see MyCaption and vLingo on the BlackBerry), but it does a pretty good job on the Samsung Omnia in this video.

When you throw that app onto a Snapdragon-1GHz-enabled device, it might speed up considerably, although it’s hard to tell how much of the lag time is data connection and how much is processor power. Looks cool, though.

Sprint Offers Unlimited Calls To and From Any Network

sprint_unlimited_any_network

Rumors of a change to Sprint’s voice plans turned out to be true: Sprint’s new Any Mobile, Anytime plan includes unlimited incoming and outgoing calls to any mobile phone on any network in the US. Pretty economical in these tough times. Here is the full press release from Sprint.
