Synchronize your Twitter Account with TWP Profile

twitter_logo_header I’ve just installed tweetstream, a cool plugin for BuddyPress that synchronizes your Twitter account with your TheWindowsPhone activity stream. If you’re an industry insider or just tweet a lot about Windows Phones and the mobile space, consider enabling this feature on your profile to keep TWP readers up to date. It will add your tweets to the TWP activity stream, too, exposing your tweets to the whole community!

To synchronize your Twitter account with your TWP Activity stream:

  1. Under the “My Account” menu item on TheWindowsPhone bar at the top of the site, click on “Settings”
  2. Click on “Tweetstream” on the sub-menu
  3. Click on Authorize With Twitter (this takes you to the Twitter website)
  4. Enter your Twitter username and password and click “Allow”
  5. That’s it!

The browser should redirect you back to the Tweetstream settings, where you can configure the following options:

  • Delete tweet from twitter when deleted in activity.
  • Always check checkbox “To twitter”
  • Synchronize tweets to my activity
  • Import tweets containing @names
  • Add my profile link after my tweet

There is now an option to filter “good” and “bad” words. In other words, any tweets with “good” words will be posted to your Activity stream, tweets with “bad” words won’t.

TouchTwit Twitter Client Coming to Marketplace

I just read about an upcoming app release on the Marketplace that might catch the attention of the Windows Mobile twitter nation: TouchTwit. Still in the certification process to get into the Marketplace, the little video shows a smooth, good-looking and feature-packed twitter client with support for pictures, GPS, and short URLs . Additional features are:

  • Access to your favorites, list of followers and people you’re following.
  • Sending direct messages
  • Search tweets, users, and hot topics (current, daily, weekly)
  • Home and general settings
  • Account switcher

The TouchTwit site doesn’t give any more info, but you can follow them on twitter to find out when TouchTwit gets into the Windows Marketplace.

Panoramic Software Releases moTweets 1.2

motweets_01Panroamic Software has just upgraded their moTweets twitter client for Windows Mobile to version 1.2. The upgrade contains a whole host of new features, including:

  • Search and Trends
  • Show Conversations
  • Color coding tweets for replys and user tweets
  • Download Twitpic images from within moTweets
  • Additional language support for German, Dutch, and Japanese
  • Scroll arrow to easily jump to the top or bottom of the list
  • Many minor bug fixes and improvements

Spb Releases Spb Mobile Shell 3.5

spb_mobile_35Spb Software House has just released an upgrade to their incredibly popular Windows Mobile UI replacement, Spb Mobile Shell. The new version, Spb Mobile Shell 3.5, features additional support for social networks like Facebook and Twitter, enhanced Internet searching with instant suggestions and many others enhancements.

Perhaps just as interestingly, Spb has announced several OEM deals with big Chinese companies, specifically ZTE, Huawei and the biggest China-based OEM K-Touch. SPB also announced signing of a significant agreement with MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions.

Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, CEO of SPB Software says: “This version clearly shows where SPB Software is going. We are on the way to make it even more flexible for user personalization, as well as being a great partner for phone manufacturers and mobile operators. The fast changing market needs the right user interface with great flexibility in customization. And we are well prepared for the demand.”

This is a great strategy for Spb. Much like HTC is taking charge of it’s own Windows Mobile destiny with TouchFlo (and soon the new Windows Mobile version of Sense), Spb can stake out it’s territory by partnering with OEM manufacturers and others. Looking forward to seeing where this leads!

Qik Video Sharing App Updated to 4.21

The very cool video sharing app, Qik, has just received a major overhaul that includes a whole new, sleek user interface and better integration with social networks. Qik is great at taking vids and uploading them to your favourite sites, but the most remarkable feature is the live video streaming from your phone to their website. Very neat.

The screenshot shows a great looking UI with finger-friendly icons for all the touchies out there, and they’ve specifically improved integration with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. They seem to have fine-tuned it for the Samsung Omnia, but it should work nicely on any WinMo device.

Skyfire launches beta 0.9, big hit with social networkers

Today Skyfire announced the latest beta build (0.9) of their popular mobile browser for Windows Mobile and S60 platforms.

This beta build includes a lot of new social aspects including the native integration of both Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Users with Facebook and Twitter accounts can import their news feeds and Twitter streams into Skyfire and easily publish their status to these networks. Users can also share and publish any web page to their Facebook and Twitter streams by simply going to the share menu in the Skyfire browser.

I’ve been playing with this latest build for the past few days and I have to say, I’m really impressed! I’m a huge fan of both Facebook and Twitter and Skyfire 0.9’s “real-time activity wall” (feed aggregator) is awesome. I’m also impressed by many other improvements as well, such as less required scrolling, better text rendering, and of course Skyfire remains my top mobile browser pick for its ability to support Flash Web pages, video, and its speedy load time.
