SPB Updates SPB Mobile Shell to 3.5.1 Beta

spb_mobile_shell_3_5_1_beta_screenshot_2Possibly the most popular Windows Mobile UI replacement around, Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 has been bumped up to 3.5.1 beta, available for download in the SPB Club Forum. Mostly bug fixes here:

  • SPB Pocket Plus close button makes Shell unresponsive
  • Set Ringtone doesn’t work for Contacts
  • 6.5: Theme shows incorrectly for Carousel and Tiles views
  • Added current conditions threshold for weather widget
  • Agenda: One day is shown twice, 25 осt date is the transition to “winter” time
  • 3D SMS viewer: First word disappears after enter
  • Twitter issues fixes
  • Kinetic scrolling doesn’t stop on Asus P565
  • 3D SMS viewer: Picture is absent.
  • 3D viewer: Date isn’t shown for SMS and Email
  • 3D email viewer: First account always shows
  • Birthday widget doesn’t update itself when contact info is changed
  • New filter category is available only after MS restart
  • Task widget makes task sychronization with Outlook longer
  • Feature: introduced default action for weather widget (now choose between “Open forecast” and
  • “Open conditions”)

Interestingly, there is no mention of a fix for the strange problems that HTC Touch Pro 2 users are experiencing. Lots of threads in the forums, but no official response from Spb. Nonetheless, Mobile Shell is a wicked program for the rest of us and anyone using 3.5 should probably grab this update.

Customize Menu Bar and Carousel in Mobile Shell 3.5

spb_mobile_shell_3_5_shell_extender_customizeA new app over at XDA allows users of Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 to customize both the look and number of icons in the Launcher bar in both the Professional and Lifestyle screens. This is a huge mod for many of us, as you can customize so much of Spb Mobile Shell but not those two ugly buttons at the bottom (at least not without some registry hacks).

This new app, called ShellExtension, also allows you to add or remove panels from the Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 carousel, with up to 10 panels. The full list of features is:

  • Auto detect of spb version 3.0.1 and 3.5 (extra functions for the 3.5 version)
  • Change the number of menu buttons for both (Pro and Life) and their functions
  • Change the number of menu buttons to 0, 2 or 3 (With 0 buttons you can put widgets on the menubar.
  • Changeable functions: Launcher, SPB Menu, Favorite Contacts, Weather, Weather conditions, Agenda, Time, Profile, Task manager, Wireless manager, Phone Profile, Backlight, Call logs, SPB Contacts, Contact carousel, Today, Lifestyle and Professional Home
  • The Launcher V35 and Contacts V35 are still changeable by the SPB menu
  • Change or remove the text of the buttons
  • Local versions of SPB Shell retrieves the correct local button text (if not changed by the user)
  • If you know the right number for a menu icon, you can change that too
  • Change the number of Lifestyle and Professional screens from 0 to 10
  • Change the number of Fav. Contact screens from 1 to 10 (if 1 is selected the left and right functions are functional)
  • Full control over your carousel screens, remove screens you don’t want and/or add (Task manager, Wireless manager not in SPB version 3.5 , Profile manager and Backlight)
  • Change the text to your own text of these carousel screens
  • Add or remove the menu bar with “back” button for Task and Profile manager
  • Add or remove the recycling bin in the edit menus
  • Program text in (English, French, Greek and Dutch) according to you SPB shell language
  • Easy updating qa_layouts.dat with your own manipulated xml files
  • Make the folders editable or removable (Extra buttons)
  • Change the dialer contacts button to your choice
  • After the changes, ShellExtension restarts the shell automatically

To install ShellExtension for Spb Mobile Shell 3.5:

  1. download ShellExtension from XDA
  2. unzip the two files and place them somewhere on your Windows Mobile device
  3. run ShellExtension

If you need to uninstall you’ll have to check the thread for instructions. Enjoy! And please let me know what you think!

Sense Revolution 3.5 – Sense UI on Spb Mobile Shell 3.5

sense_revolution_3_5_windows_mobileI recently posted about a cool way to get the HTC Sense UI on your Windows Mobile phone. It involved adding a skin to Spb Mobile Shell 3.0, but the technique busted on Spb Mobile Shell 3.5. Luckily, there’s an update available!

Download Sense Revolution 3.5 here. It is compatible with Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 and VGA, WVGA, QVGA and WQVGA screen resolutions. The instructions say you have to completely uninstall Spb Mobile Shell, then re-install it and then install the Sense Revolution 3.5 cab.

Good luck – please report back if it works! Or if it doesn’t!

Spb Releases Spb Mobile Shell 3.5

spb_mobile_35Spb Software House has just released an upgrade to their incredibly popular Windows Mobile UI replacement, Spb Mobile Shell. The new version, Spb Mobile Shell 3.5, features additional support for social networks like Facebook and Twitter, enhanced Internet searching with instant suggestions and many others enhancements.

Spb Mobile Shell v.3 users can upgrade for free here, or you can download or buy a copy of Spb Mobile Shell over here at Mobihand.

Perhaps just as interestingly, Spb has announced several OEM deals with big Chinese companies, specifically ZTE, Huawei and the biggest China-based OEM K-Touch. SPB also announced signing of a significant agreement with MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions.

Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, CEO of SPB Software says: “This version clearly shows where SPB Software is going. We are on the way to make it even more flexible for user personalization, as well as being a great partner for phone manufacturers and mobile operators. The fast changing market needs the right user interface with great flexibility in customization. And we are well prepared for the demand.”

This is a great strategy for Spb. Much like HTC is taking charge of it’s own Windows Mobile destiny with TouchFlo (and soon the new Windows Mobile version of Sense), Spb can stake out it’s territory by partnering with OEM manufacturers and others. Looking forward to seeing where this leads!
