Samsung Omnia 7 Announced a little too early

I’m currently sat on a train heading for the big Microsoft event in London but already there’s a Samsung device poking out from the curtains. This is the Samsung Omnia 7 and we’re kinda getting the feeling that most Windows Phone 7 devices will end up having “7″ in their name.

The Omnia 7 has already been announced on the official Samsung site in Russia. I think the word “whoops” is appropriate here. The prescense of a 4″ Super AMOLED screen reminds us of this Samsung handset which was revealed through leaked slides on Three UK. If I was a betting man, I’d put money on this Omnia 7 appearing on Three UK very soon indeed. Other specs include a 1GHz CPU, 8GB storage and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video capabilities.

Don’t forget to join us right here (or on Twitter if you’re following us) at 2PM for all the official announcements.

Extreme-Apps.com Releases Shake-and-Save Screen Capture

shake_and_save_extreme_appsExtreme? I don’t know. Novel, definitely. Extreme-apps.com has just put up Shake-and-Save on their website. Shake-and-Save lets you simply shake your Windows Phone and it will automatically do a screen capture and save it to in the format of your choice. This can be pretty handy for folks like me who do a lot of on-device screencaps.

And I love the warning on their site: Hold you phone tight. We are NOT responsible in case you drop it.

Extreme Apps says it specifically supports these devices:

  • HTC Touch Diamond/Pro
  • HTC Touch Diamond2/Pro2
  • HTC Touch HD/HD2 (LEO)
  • Samsung OMNIA (i900)

I’d be curious to know if it works on any accelerometer-enabled Windows Mobile device – feedback anyone? My Xperia doesn’t have one. Download it from the Extreme-Apps.com website and give it a try!

Samsung Omnia comes to Bell Canada in April?

omnia-4 Could it be true? Listen up, Canadians! A tipster from BGR is reporting that Bell is getting ready to launch the Samsung Omnia in April! Specifically somewhere between April 9th and April 12th.

The Omnia runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and has a 3.2″ 240×400 touchscreen display, and the usual — GPS, WiFi, EVDO Rev. o / Rev. A…

But at the top of the list of cool features for the Omnia is its super cool 5MP camera with autofocus, face detection, smile detection, LED flash, image stabilization and DivX/XviD video playback!

No pricing or launch details confirmed by Bell as of yet, but stay tuned!

Samsung Acme i8910 shows its face

samsung-i8910-3-300x141

Love the Omnia? Well, here comes another treat from Samsung - the Acme i8910. Though it’s not entirely clear right now whether it will run Windows Mobile, all signs point to ‘yes’!

The Acme i8910 packs the usuals – GPS, WiFi, 8 or 16GB of internal memory, a 3.5mm headphone jack and – drumroll please – a rockin’ 8MP camera… that can record HD video!

More pics of the Samsung Acme i8910 right here!

Samsung Omnia really is an iPhone competitor

The Samsung Omnia’s biggest selling point is its touch screen – it’s huge, very responsive, and looks very sharp. Also worth noting are its 8GB internal memory (expandable to 24GB with a 16GB microSD card!), great battery life, GPS built right in, and a 5MP auto-focus camera (with LED flash).

Video: CNET prefers Samsung Omnia to BlackBerry Storm

Surprise, surprise! CNET’s Bonnia Cha has recommended the Samsung Omnia (on Verizon Wireless) over the new and much anticipated BlackBerry Storm. Cha says she prefers the Omnia because its operating system is a bit quicker to respond:

Though slightly more expensive, Verizon customers looking for a touch-screen smartphone will get a better user experience and faster performance from the Samsung Omnia than the RIM BlackBerry Storm.
