Omnia 7 On PAYG WIth Three At £449.99

UK network Three sell most of their phones on PAYG as well as contract options which is great for anyone who likes the benefits of a sim only package but buy a phone of your choice.

On passing a nearby Three store today I spotted that the Samsung Omnia 7 is also on offer costing £449.99 (as was the HTC Desire HD) which does sound a lot for a phone but when you consider at the moment most Windows Phone 7 devices are contract only with the HTC HD7 being the only other PAYG offering on O2 it is not actually that bad.

Three does not offer this handset on PAYG online yet and you might find some stores try to hold onto stock for a full contract but the pricing is there and the handset is available if you can find a store to sell one to you.

So now who would consider a 12 month sim only ‘One Plan’ for only £25 a month and buying one of these handsets outright?

Engadget Video Preview

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/…-battle-for-wp/

Engadget has provided a great video overview of the Windows Phone 7s coming to the non-US phone market. Among those devices previewed are the Samsung Omnia 7, the HTC HD7, and the HTC Mozart. The Samsung Omnia 7 was praised for it’s fantastic screen. The one differentiator of the HTC Mozart that has not been heavily discussed is the xenon flash and 8MP camera. This combination could make the Mozart the phone to get for those interested in replacing their point-and-shoot. Full reviews will be coming soon as the embargo lifts tonight.

Windows Phone 7 Profile: the Samsung Omnia 7

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/…one/glance.aspx

“With a 4.0″ SUPER AMOLED display and thin, light design the Samsung Omnia 7 is great for gaming with Xbox LIVE, listening to Zune music and watching videos.”

OK Samsung, you have me baffled. The specs on the Omnia 7 are virtually identical to the Samsung Focus…yet the exterior design of the casing would seem to target a different sort of market. Any insights here? Maybe one is a North American market device, and one is for Europe/Asia?

  • 4.0″, 480×800 Super AMOLED screen
  • 4.82″ x 2.53″ x 0.43″ 119g
  • 512MB RAM/1GB Flash/8GB internal storage
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8250 1 GHz
  • Battery life – Talk time: 3 hrs/Standby: 250 hrs
  • 5MP camera/720p HD video

UPDATE: It looks like the Samsung Focus is coming to North America via AT&T, while the Samsung Omnia 7 is coming to Europe.
