Telus HTC Touch Pro2 Long-Term Evaluation

telus_htc_touch_pro2_outside

The good folks over at Telus Mobility have just dropped a shiny new HTC Touch Pro2 on my front door, so I’ll be giving it a long-term evaluation from now through the summer. I must say… I like!

After the inglorious end of my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 last week I was a little hesitant to try another slider, but this HTC is built like a brick house and feels like it might last me long enough to send it back to Telus in one piece.

Beyond the really solid build, the specs are nice and my initial impression is very favourable: I like the TouchFlo interface (first time I’ve used it extensively), the big, bright 3.6” touch screen is beautiful, the camera is nice, and most importantly for a slider phone: the keyboard is great! The keys are huge and spaced apart, with just the right tactile feel, and you can get at almost any character you would ever need without going into a symbols menu.

Anyway, a solid thanks to Telus for the new toy, and I’ll keep everyone posted on my thoughts!

Rumour: HTC Snap and Touch Pro2 launch dates for T-Mobile

htcsnapandpro2

Though these are only rumours for now, it’s exciting nonetheless: T-Mobile is apparently getting the HTC Snap on July 1st followed closely by the Touch Pro2 on July 22nd!

The HTC Snap, a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (non-touch) device, features 3G/GSM while the Touch Pro2 (likely to be called the T-Mobile Wing II and replace the original T-Mobile Wing) is a touchscreen WinMo phone with a high res WVGA screen and 3G data speeds. Nice!

Video: HTC Touch Pro2 exclusive from CTIA 2009

Our good friend and contributor Nan Palmero was nice enough to get us a one on one look at the HTC Touch Pro2 at this years CTIA!

I must say, this device looks super impressive to me — larger screen, prettier curves, a tilt screen, much more responsive… I can’t wait to get my hands on one!

Leaked: HTC 2009 lineup gets juicier details

firestone

Looks like there are a slew of awesome WinMo 6.5 phones set to come out this year, according to WMPowerUser.

On top of the previously seen Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, the “Firestone” (above), successor to the once promising Touch HD, runs a 3.6-inch WVGA display, 600MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6.5. According to my sources, this one should be out sometime in August 2009. There’s also the HTC Whitestone which packs a 3.6 inch WVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and has a Qualcomm 7600 processor running at an impressive 528 Mhz. The device will have both GSM and EVDO and debut on the Verizon network in September.

Most impressive to us so far though is the poorly code named HTC “Thoth” which is clearly the Athena successor. The Thoth features a huge 4.8 inch WVGA screen, a 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, Windows Mobile 6.5, of course… but get this: It runs on a Qualcomm 8250 processor at 1000 Mhz! Keep your eyes peeled for this sexy lil thing September 2009!
