Suffering a little Android-envy? This subversive app has appeared on the XDA forums that turns your Windows Mobile device into an Android look-alike, complete with the drag-and-drop desktop. The app is a bit limited right now – only works in portrait mode and was apparently designed for the HTC Touch Diamond, but folks seem to have it working on a wide variety of devices.

Androkkid, as it is called, is still early in development, here’s what it offers at the moment:

Add icons to desktop from list by tap on icon and release on desktop

If you tap icon you can move it were you want

If you move icon on X or on pen you can delete and edit it

Tapping on background open a default menu with a lot of actions on program

You can add contact from your contacts list

You can add url by typing it on program

You can minimize program by tapping on background and choose Minimize

There are a lot of settings in file Settings.ini in the application folder, you can modify but first make a backup

Leave a comment if you give it a try! You can download Androkkid here.

The new HTC Touch Diamond combines all the performance and functionality of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with high–tech, innovative TouchFLO 3D Technology on its hi–res touchscreen. View, create, and edit documents in Word and Excel, view PowerPoint and PDF files, filter your Inbox, and stay connected – securely – with your office via ActiveSync or Wireless Sync. Take advantage of Wi–Fi connectivity, Bluetooth Wireless Technology and its 3.2 MP camera with flash and video capture. Use it as a tethered modem with Mobile Broadband Connect (previously named Broadband Access Connect), find your way with VZ Navigator and stay entertained and up to date with Windows Media Player and Visual Voice Mail.

Well, at least now you can see what the first generation Touch Diamonds look like up close and personal. I guess that’s something!

This isn’t the first time that HTC and One & Co have worked together. In fact, they’ve been working together since 2006 to create the popular handset the HTC Touch Diamond. With the full acquisition of One & Co, HTC hopes to bring new innovative handsets to the market.

I am very excited to see what weird and wonderful devices come out of this team up!

HTC Bolsters Design Credibility With Addition of One & Co

Leader in lifestyle design will be cornerstone of HTC’s design capability and philosophy while continuing as an innovative design consultancy

TAOYUAN, TAIWAN and SAN FRANCISCO, December 3, 2008 – Furthering its reputation as a global leader in mobile innovation and design, HTC Corporation today announced the continuation of its design focus with the acquisition of San Francisco-based lifestyle design firm One & Company Design, Inc.
HTC and One & Co first began collaborating in 2006 on the initial incubation and creation of the HTC Touch Diamond, a highly touted phone with iconic design that blended unprecedented use of material and industrial design.

One & Co is excited to bring our lifestyle, user focused approach to HTC and we look forward to creating iconic, compelling products together,” said Scott Croyle, partner of One & Co. “Knowing about HTC’s cutting edge technology and proven track record of innovation, we are excited to collaborate with HTC as a global lifestyle brand.

In addition to its work with HTC, One & Co has broad design experience in a variety of industries that range from footwear, snowboarding and skiing, furniture, packaging, houseware, timepieces and more.
It’s like spotting a unicorn! You always <strike>wanted to believe</strike> knew it existed, but you’d just never seen one… but here it is! Taiwanese site ePrice has pictures of the white HTC Touch Diamond up. Now, I normally hate the look of white electronics and gadgets – I’m a black/metal fan (the finish/coat kind not the headbanging air guitarist kind) but I must say – it looks pretty cool in white.

Yep – you read that right. HTC is expecting to sell 3 million of their Touch Diamond devices by the end of 2008!

On November 21, HTC CEO Peter Chou said that before the end of the year the company expects to sell up to a million G1 (Android) devices and are expected to hit the 3 million mark with their popular Windows Mobile device, the HTC Touch Diamond.

HTC’s Chou also denied rumours of a pending layoff as well as rumours of decreased orders – proudly proclaiming that HTC was too tough for the global economic recession to weigh down. The company’s condition is so good, in fact, that they’re currently looking at acquiring a handset design company in the US.

…then you should check out BeMario!

The program works with the Samsung Omnia and HTC Touch Diamond GSensor to set off the “Jump” or “Coin” 8-bit Mario game sounds when you jump in real life.

The file includes the theme song to Super Mario Bros too so you can set it as your ringtone!

How-to: Getting Internet Sharing to work on your AT&T Fuze, Sprint Touch Pro, HTC Touch Diamond, and Samsung Epix!

Two awesome hacks from XDA-Developers in one day! Woo hoo!

This time one that allows you to ‘enable’ (read: re-enable) Internet Sharing on your HTC Touch Diamond, Sprint Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro) and the Samsung Epix!

Now, this is a registry key edit so use at your own risk as we’re never 100% sure of how these things will turn out sometimes.. but if you’re desperate for Internet Sharing (or brave and up for a challenge) try out this trick…

[ad]

First off, you’ll need a registry editor like Total Commander. Then you’ll need to delete the entire key, not just the value, which does something different depending on the value assigned) in this modification. You will want to delete ForceCellConnection, which is found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings.

Restart your device and… voila! Let us know how it works out for you!
