Full Review of T-Mobile HTC HD2 on PocketNow

htc_hd2

Now that the HTC HD2 – the hottest device on the market at the moment – has arrived State-side on T-Mobile, the good folks over at PocketNow have put up a pretty extensive and in-depth review. With more pictures than you can shake a stylus at, they go through everything from the “what’s-in-the-box” routine to a full tour of the hardware and software.

Go check out the HTC HD2 review here.

HTC HD Mini vs. HTC HD2

PocketNow, who clearly spend all their time making videos, has just put up this new vid of the HTC HD Mini and the HTC HD2 side-by-side. I’ve seen pictures of the two, but this video shows them running beside each other.

This is an interesting video because we finally get to see how the lower, odd HVGA resolution on the HTC HD Mini affects your screen real estate. Smaller, but both are nice looking devices. There’s also an odd implementation of pinch-to-zoom. What do you think?

Microsoft Giving Away an HTC HD2

Microsoft is offering up a free HTC HD2 if you can tell them what you’d do “for an extra inch”… of screen space. Head over to Microsoft’s site and tell them what you would do for that extra inch before May 15th and you could find yourself winning  the hottest device on the market!

HTC HD2 Seen Running Windows Phone 7

hd2_running_windows_phone_7

This pic obtained from WinMo.nl shows an HTC HD2 running Windows Phone 7 Series. This is terrific news for a couple reasons.

First, it suggests that HTC may be looking to release a Windows Phone 7 Series update for their more recent devices.

More interestingly, however, is that it seems to show that Windows Phone 7 Series can run on current hardware, making it likely we’ll start to see Windows Phone 7 Series ROMs popping up on the forums!

It will be really interesting to see how Microsoft handles the next 8 months of anticipation – will we see leak after leak of Windows Phone 7? Leaving nothing to surprise us when it officially launches at Christmas? Or will they keep a tight lid on it until the drop date? Beta testers are notoriously unreliable…

European HTC HD2 Hiding 128MB RAM?

htc_hd2_official

HTCPedia.com is reporting that the European models of the HTC HD2 may have a hidden chunk of RAM. James Koopmann notes that the US model features 576MB RAM, while European models show only 448MB. James speculates that perhaps it is to dissuade users from upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 (since the HD2 doesn’t officially meet the specs) but there’s no word from HTC yet.

A ROM apparently exists that gets European users access to the full RAM, has anyone found or used it?

*** UPDATE: I just found this post over at coolsmartphone that links to an XDA Developers forum with an HTC HD2 ROM that enables the extra RAM for European HD2 users. Enjoy!

HTC HD2 Supports High-Speed WiFi N?

wifi_NSome folks over at XDA have found a hidden registry setting on the HTC HD2 that seems to prove the device supports the latest draft of the “N” WiFi standard. Inside of “HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Params”, you’ll find “11nModeDisable”… change this from 1 to 0 and it activates the WiFi N support.

They say it’s tested, so go for it and report back!

Windows Mobile 6.5 Helping Drive Sales

peter_chou_htc_ceoIs Windows Mobile 6.5 is helping to drive sales of HTC Windows Phones? According to HTC CEO Peter Chou:

HTC is currently cooperating with a number of carriers in Europe, including T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone, to promote the sales of HTC HD2 and demand from those carriers is outpacing supply, Chou indicated.

Digitimes and HTCPedia read this as evidence that WinMo 6.5 is helping to sell devices, but you’ve got to wonder: HTC makes excellent quality devices, has completely replaced the Windows Mobile interface with TouchFlo, TouchFlo 3D, and now Sense and just re-branded themselves and launched a new, expanded marketing campaign… so is this demand for their devices thanks to Windows Mobile 6.5 or in spite of it?

Anyone care to hazard a guess?

HTC HD2 Best On-Screen Keyboard?

HTC_HD2_Nokia_N900_keyboard_comparison_SlashGear_8-540x384

SlashGear recently compared the on-screen keyboard on the HTC HD2 to the slide-out hardware keyboard on the new Nokia N900 and found that they preferred the on-screen kb on the HD2. This is in large part due to some terrific auto-correction and predictive text features HTC has implemented, but the massive 4.3″ capacitive touchscreen doesn’t hurt either.

“Even in the short time we’ve had the HD2, we’re already faster at typing on it in than we are with most hardware keyboards on smartphones.”

HTC HD2 Coming to North America in Early 2010

hd2_hands_80018

Peter Chou (CEO of HTC) and Steve Ballmer held a joint conference today in Taiwan to officially announce one of the most highly anticipated Windows Phones so far: the HTC HD2. Much has been leaked and learned already about the HD2’s powerful 1Ghz processor, it’s massive 4.3″ capacitive WVGA touchscreen, and that it will be the first HTC Windows Phone to sport Sense instead of TouchFlo, but this announcement makes it official:

The HTC HD2 shows what’s possible through our close partnership with HTC and it breaks new ground for Windows phones by delivering a beautiful multi-touch screen that people will love.

So says Mr. Ballmer. The full press release (after the jump) says the HTC HD2 is now shipping in Asia and will be shipping to North America in “early 2010″. Honestly, I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these!

Video: HTC HD2 Full Review

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/_FntFBQDjek" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Much like with sex and food, language doesn’t matter much when it comes to ogling the sexy HTC HD2. This video – which I believe is in Greek (literally, not in the “it’s Greek to me…” sense) – shows a nice long session with the new HTC HD2 and it’s as pretty as we all hoped. Fast, too. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

IE Mobile on Windows Mobile 6.5 HTC HD 2 Supports Multi-Touch

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/_FntFBQDjek" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

This little video shows Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile included with Windows Mobile 6.5 running on an HTC HD2, and it’s got multi-touch (or is it pinch-to-zoom?). The web browser on the new Zune HD got pretty rave reviews (for a Microsoft web browser)… a step in the right direction?

Here’s another video tour of the HTC HD2, this time from an official HTC guy. He shows off the Opera browser, some pinch-to-zoom stuff, and a few HTC Sense panels.
