While we could complain about the quality of this leaked photo – this is what we have to work with, folks. So kudos to the anon photographer.

Well, in case you can’t spot it right away, this is the long rumoured T-Mobile Shadow II – HTC’s non-touch, WinMo 6.1 standard smartphone. As is rumoured, it supports HotSpot WiFi-based calling on top of a 2.6 inch QVGA display, slide-out 20-key text keyboard, 2MP camera, microSD slot, and quad-band GSM/EDGE.

Are you a web-browsing-on-the-go kind of person like I am…right now? Well be sure to check out this free app!

WifiLocations is a simple program that will automatically activate WiFi on wifi enabled devices at user-specified locations. You DON’T need GPS! You can add your current location (according to the nearest GSM/UMTS-cellsites {not supported in some zones of the world}) as a location where wifi will be activated automatically. This is quite useful for people who want to activate voip over wifi whenever a wifi internet network is available.

Noteworthy: It will not start after installing the cab-file. You need to start it yourself. Before you can use the app, you’ll need to add locations… sorry – all the free-hotspot-searching is up to you!

Go on – grab the application right here now!

The relatively unheard of Pantech Duo 2 has made its first appearance on the FCC database. And, as often is the case, some unnamed someone was there to snap some high-resolution pictures of the shiny new device for us to oogle!

Sadly, it seems that the shiny bit is one of the only improvements over the original Pantech Duo: QWERTY, dual band 850/1900, GSM/EDGE/WCDMA (supports AT&T’s 3G network), 2MP camera (with video capture), Bluetooth, microSD… nothing new, really but Windows Mobile 6.1.

No news on the launch date or pricing as the device has yet to be confirmed by Pantech or AT&T.

According to some rumours started by the Inquirer today (ignore their linked ‘video proof’ as it’s clearly a joke), Microsoft is in the final stages of building a phone – the first of its own brand – that will rely on performance to drive sales. They’re allegedly developing a phone that uses one of NVIDIA’s Tegra processors. This processor (likely the APX 2500 chip) would theoretically give the Microsoft device 720p video playback and advanced 3D visuals that no other smartphone on the market has, to date.

[ad]

As the rumour has it, we’ll be hearing more about this in February at 2009’s Mobile World Congress (3GSM) and released shortly afterwards.

If this isn’t painfully obvious enough already, if this rumour is true, it is clearly a retaliation against Apple’s iPhone… and it’s about time! Microsoft has always downplayed the possibility of producing its own phone but between porting Zune elements to WinMo and the recent purchase of Danger, we knew it was on the horizon.

“Yota was established to provide a unique set of mobile communication services to millions of people in Russia and today we have launched the first device and services to realise its full potential,” said Denis Sverdlov, General Director of Yota’s parent company, Scartel LLC (brand Yota). “We really believe that these innovative services, high-speed Internet and stylish HTC MAX 4G will completely change the communications industry, just as the introduction of cellular communications did many years ago.”

HTC MAX 4G: A New World of Entertainment

The Yota Mobile WiMAX network offers high-speed wireless Internet access that opens a new realm of entertainment and communication possibilities. The basic Yota Home package will provide subscribers with instant access to online games, maps, messaging and file exchange applications while on the move. In addition, the high-capacity Mobile WiMAX network with traffic prioritisation algorithms, allows online films, video and TV programmes to be viewed on the large WVGA screen.

Thanks to mobile WiMAX, high-quality multimedia entertainment is no longer limited. With Yota Video, a full video on demand (VOD) service, users can watch their favourite movies and videos from their personal Yota catalogue anytime, anywhere.

Broadcasting 14 free channels at launch and 23 channels by the end of 2008, Yota TV introduces a powerful mobile television experience. The vibrant, 3.8 inch 800×480 screen of the HTC MAX 4G can display up to nine TV channels simultaneously, allowing quick and easy channel surfing and programme selection. Thanks to the device’s TV-out capability, users can also watch content on the big screen, putting the HTC MAX 4G at the very heart of the mobile entertainment experience.

For music-lovers, Yota Music offers an extensive online music catalogue of more than 50,000 titles, including a wide range of music from both international and independent music labels. Users can choose to either play the tracks direct from the online catalogue, or download them to the HTC MAX 4G’s 8GB of onboard flash memory.

In addition, a separate catalogue of electronic books is available, so users can download, read and enjoy a broad range of books while on the move.

”The introduction of the HTC MAX 4G represents the culmination of a close partnership between HTC and Yota to develop the world’s first integrated mobile GSM/WIMAX handset,” said Peter Chou, CEO and President, HTC Corporation. “Russia is a key strategic market for HTC and Yota’s Mobile WiMAX network sets a new global benchmark for next-generation mobile services.”

HTC MAX 4G: Flexible Communication

The HTC MAX 4G supports GSM calls using a SIM card from any Russian network operator and when both callers are Yota subscribers, the call will automatically be routed as a VoIP call over the Yota Mobile WiMAX network. The Yota Phone service also supports more business applications, allowing users to switch between English and Russian contact records while providing functionality such as call holding, conference calling and video calling using the VGA camera on the front of the device.

HTC MAX 4G: Unparalleled Performance With Intuitive Usability

The HTC MAX 4G was created to take full advantage of Yota’s high-speed Mobile WiMAX network without compromising style or ease of use. The device is sleek and elegant and includes a vibrant, large 3.8 inch, 800×480 WVGA touch screen display. Running Windows Mobile 6.1, the HTC MAX 4G incorporates HTC’s proprietary Touch FLO 3D user interface, allowing swift and intuitive navigation to key applications such as dialling calls, listening to music, taking picture and more.

Introduction of Yota Yap-yap

HTC MAX 4G users can now record their lives through a lens thanks to Yota’s Yap-yap service. This allows contacts to be synchronised and edited through the Web and video clips and photos can also be uploaded to www.yota.ru. Images taken with the integrated 5MP camera can also be geo-tagged using coordinates from the integrated GPS.

Leaked: Samsung Saga, Samsung Renown, and HTC Touch Pro launch dates from Verizon Wireless

phoneArena has just let me in on some late-breaking news given to them by an anonymous tipster about the HTC Touch Pro, Saga (CDMA version of the Epix), and Renown.

Looks like the Samsung Saga I770 (CDMA version of the Epix) can be ordered via the Internet and Telesales on Nov 14th for $199 with a 2-year contract (after $70 rebate). It features Dual-band CDMA, EVDO Rev A, Quad-band GSM, WiFi 802.11g/b, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, Office, Opera and IE Mobile, Bluetooth, 2.55″ 320×320 pixel display, 2MP camera, microSDHC support up to 16GB, and comes with a SIM card pre-installed. Included in the box are adapters for use with the wall charger in other countries. Hint hint. :)

[ad]

Secondly we have the Samsung Renown SCH-U810 flip phone, with an Internet and Telesales release date of Nov 19th (in-stores Dec 1st) and a 2-year price of $179 (after $50 rebate). It is also Dual-band CDMA and Quad-band GSM capable, but lacks EVDO Rev A and WiFi. Other features include a 2MP camera, Bluetooth, QVGA display, microSDHC support up to 8GB, and comes with a SIM card pre-installed.

And last, but certainly not least, we have my personal favourite – the HTC Touch Pro. The Touch Pro is scheduled for Internet and Telesales release on Nov 24th and in-stores on Dec 1st, with a 2-year contract price of $349 (after $70 rebate). Features include Dual-band CDMA with EVDO Rev A, WiFi 802.11b/g, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, Office, Opera Mobile, 2.8″ VGA touch-sensitive display, TouchFLO 3D navigation, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 3.2MP camera with autofocus and flash, and supports microSDHC cards up to 16GB.
