Google Maps for Windows Mobile devices has been updated to 4.1, and it now includes voice search capability. Simply pressing the talk button while the search window is open will pop up a screen that allows you to say what you want, and Google will return the appropriate results. Visit m.google.com/maps for more details or to download the latest version.
Background location updates: Google Latitude background location updating has been fixed and allows you to continue updating your location automatically in the background even when Maps for mobile is closed.
o To enable this, choose to exit Maps from its main menu and when prompted, select ‘Yes’ to continue background location updates.
o When in background location update mode, Latitude will default to cell ID (cell tower) location detection to preserve battery life. WiFi or GPS detection will not be available in background mode.
o Note: you may receive a limited number of installation reminders.
Cool! Now it’s even easier to find the places you need to go with Google Maps for mobile’s newest server-side change.
Want to go somewhere but don’t have the address? Dying for a hot cup of coffee from Starbucks? With this new update, you can simply type the names of restaurants, stores, and other points of interest into the search. No need to know the address, Google Maps for mobile will find it for you!
