Great news for our UK visitors: the sexy new HTC HD2 is available on both O2 and T-Mobile UK. Not too excited? What if I told you it was FREE on T-Mobile? Sign on for a 2 year contract at £35 per month, or £40 at 18 months. No word on the O2 pricing yet, but a free HD2? Doesn’t get much better than that for Christmas!
I just saw this neat, free GPS-based spedometer for Windows Mobile devices over at XDA. The developer has tested this on an HTC Touch HD and says it works well in portrait or landscape, and it features day and night modes.
I’m giving it a try this weekend, I’m going to see how fast I can kayak down the Rideau Canal! If you’d like to give it a while, it is available for download for free from XDA. You’ll need to get the .Net framework too, if you don’t already have it installed.

Are you a Star Wars fan? Maybe just a huge fan of shiny things? Being both, myself, I’m very excited to see this new app for the HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD. It uses the device’s accelerometer to make light saber noises when you swing the phone around! Cool!
A forum post over at PPC Geeks has just revealed how to go about unlocking the GPS on HTC Touch Pro handsets from Verizon Wireless.
The fix is a beta (I can’t stress that enough) and has no guarantee of not totally messing up your phone, however unlikely. That being said, those of you who are still brave enough (GPS-desperate enough) can check out the thread right here for step by step instructions!
We’ve worked hard to make it an app that goes beyond most Windows Mobile apps, both in how the graphics work (dynamic alpha blending for some extra bling), skins and colors, and the ability to search for audio and playlists wherever you’re at. We think it’s quite a value for Windows Mobile phone owners.
Boy, Santa’s going to be really overwhelmed when he checks his voicemail! Vonage’s (VG) Internet phone service is giving subscribers a number to call to reach Santa Claus’ cell number where they can leave him a voicemail message telling him what they want for Christmas.
Vonage-using parents will be able to let their kids call a special number for free and hear a recorded greeting from jolly old Saint Nick himself*.
That voicemail will then get emailed to the users account where they’ll be able to listen to the recording and know exactly what the kids want for Christmas. Clever!
If you’re a Vonage customer and you try this out, be sure to share your funny stories with us!

Being a history graduate (go on, make your nerd jokes now), I pride myself as being the Queen of Trivial Knowledge – but even I need a refresher now and again. If I’m lucky enough to be sitting by a computer (which I’ll admit is quite often) the internet has almost every answer I could possibly need in seconds thanks to Wikipedia. But what if I’m not in front of my computer?
Here’s the perfect solution: Wikipedia… on your Windows Mobilephone! I know what you’re thinking. Data. Data is expensive! And Wikipedia is full of images and links and then you have to worry about having the right browser to view it in properly… grah! So here it is… How-to: Get Wikipedia on your phone (without an internet connection!)
Are you a web-browsing-on-the-go kind of person like I am…right now? Well be sure to check out this free app!
WifiLocations is a simple program that will automatically activate WiFi on wifi enabled devices at user-specified locations. You DON’T need GPS! You can add your current location (according to the nearest GSM/UMTS-cellsites {not supported in some zones of the world}) as a location where wifi will be activated automatically. This is quite useful for people who want to activate voip over wifi whenever a wifi internet network is available.
Noteworthy: It will not start after installing the cab-file. You need to start it yourself. Before you can use the app, you’ll need to add locations… sorry – all the free-hotspot-searching is up to you!

Microsoft has begun previewing their newest version of Internet Explorer Mobile (version 6) as a free emulator online. And while it’s no Skyfire, Iris, or Opera… it’s not terrible. It is, at the very least, a huge improvement over Internet Explorer Mobile 5.
I have high hopes for this one, which I was sure I’d never say about Internet Explorer in any incarnation. But here it is, you heard it here first.
IE Mobile 6 features multiple zoom capabilities, better and deeper search integration, enhanced script and AJAX support, support for full fidelity desktop rendering, text wrap, Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 for Adobe Flash content, enhanced cursor navigation, touch and gesture support (pan support), and switch between mobile and desktop modes.
