Opera has just dropped a beta version of their popular Opera Mini browser, and it looks like they’ve hit the nail on the head. Adding tabbed browsing, a much-improved “quick dial” for your bookmarked pages, plus a few other additions and improvements could put Opera back on top.
The only thing it is lacking that the reigning champ, Skyfire, has over Opera Mini now is Skyfire’s incredible support for media, including Flash and Silverlight.
Interested in giving the new Opera a try? Head over to Opera’s website and download it! Please leave some comments with your thoughts after you’ve tried it out!
In the beginning, there was an awesome media player for Windows Mobile called ‘BetaPlayer‘. It could handle all kinds of audio and video codecs that the mobile version of Windows Media Player couldn’t. Eventually BetaPlayer turned into TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player), a freeware media app. And it was truly awesome. Then, all of a sudden, TCPMP dropped support for files downloaded from iTunes for legal reasons, and TCPMP became a little less useful. From this, the commercial CorePlayer was born. CorePlayer allows developers to collect some revenue and pay licensing fees for proprietary codec support.
I’ve been using CorePlayer for quite some time now and I love it. It does everything I want it to do: movies, video clips, audio files, YouTube, podcasts, JPGs, FLV files… and tonnes more.
Those lucky enough to own an HTC Touch HD (I’m looking at you Europe!) you’ll be happy to hear that there is now a ROM update for your sexy little device! The new ROM doesn’t feature much, sadly, but there are some important bug fixes, etc.
Windows Live for Mobile is now available for download from Microsoft! With this download you can now get Microsoft’s best programs and features right from your phone — Hotmail, Live Search, MSN Mobile, and Windows Live Spaces (though apparently Live Messenger is still a completely separate download *sigh*).
So what are you waiting for? Go now! Run!
Oh! I forgot to remind you — Hotmail is now push friendly. Wheee!
Still searching for a decent Facebook application for your WinMo phone? Well, in case you’ve missed this, some developers at XDA have recently supplied a rather awesome Facebook app.
Now, apparently this app is actually made by Microsoft themselves and has been stripped from the yet-to-be-released version of Windows Mobile - 6.5 (Build 21169). That being said, this app is in fact a pre-release version with ‘many known bugs’ (though, I couldn’t personally tell you what those bugs are as I’ve not actually run in to any myself, but see the list of known problems after the jump). I can tell you, I’ve been using it for a bit now and I really love it!
Want to try out software? Themes? New interfaces? This official desktop software imitates Windows Mobile 6, 5, and 2003SE right on your PC making it much easier to install and uninstall things you’d like to try out.
This emulator is also perfect for those who don’t currently own a Windows Mobile phone. You can spend some time with the OS, tweak some settings, try out some software, and more. Give it a try today!
Are you a Star Wars fan? Maybe just a huge fan of shiny things? Being both, myself, I’m very excited to see this new app for the HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD. It uses the device’s accelerometer to make light saber noises when you swing the phone around! Cool!
Along with a new design, FriendMobilizer now has photo upload support, internationalization, memory card installation, notifications about upcoming birthdays, and much more.
The most visible change is the main screen. Since most of us only have a handful of close friends whose activity we follow, we’ve introduced a new concept into this release called “best friends.” We allow you to pick up to 25 best friends whose pictures will be displayed on the main screen, offering you one-click access to their profile information. Their statuses are automatically retrieved every 30 minutes, and their pictures are stored on your phone longer. Note that the rest of your friends’ information is still accessible from the application.
At the same time, they’ve managed to keep FriendMobilizer light-weight, resource-friendly, and very fast. In this release, they’ve also added a garbage collection feature and improved photo caching to not only ensure speed, but further minimize storage usage as well.
A forum post over at PPC Geeks has just revealed how to go about unlocking the GPS on HTC Touch Pro handsets from Verizon Wireless.
The fix is a beta (I can’t stress that enough) and has no guarantee of not totally messing up your phone, however unlikely. That being said, those of you who are still brave enough (GPS-desperate enough) can check out the thread right here for step by step instructions!
We’ve worked hard to make it an app that goes beyond most Windows Mobile apps, both in how the graphics work (dynamic alpha blending for some extra bling), skins and colors, and the ability to search for audio and playlists wherever you’re at. We think it’s quite a value for Windows Mobile phone owners.

Can’t wait to try out IE 6 on 6? Well, here’s your chance… sooner than expected!
The good folks over at MoDaCo have just released a custom ROM for the HTC Touch HD and, to our surprise, IE 6 on 6 is included! The browser is not available as a separate download so you have to download the full ROM, but from what we’re hearing it’s a great ROM. The ROM, based on the HTC 1.19 Asia ROM, is in English.
You can find this awesome ROM over at MoDaCo. Be sure to let us know how you like it!
It’s simple – code up your own HTML files and a few thumbnail screenshots for use in the panel browser, upload the files, and then download the panel the web app creates for you on the site.
Try it out, Xperia X1 users, and let us know how it goes!
