Stream Content From Netflix To Your Windows Phone 7 Device

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2010/1…une-marketplac/

“Today, Netflix announced that its WP7 app is now live and ready to download. As with the Netflix apps for other platforms, the WP7 version is totally free and will allow you to watch streaming content on your device.”

Well, there you have it. The venerable Netflix movie service is officially ready to stream content right to your new Windows Phone 7 device. The app is free and is available on the Zune Marketplace. Personally, I’m not a movie watcher on these smaller devices. I do enjoy watching short video clips such as those on YouTube, but I have yet to feel the urge to download and watch a full-length movie. I do own an Archos media player (with a 4.3″ screen), that I have watched movies on, and enjoyed that a fair bit, but my current smartphone has a 3.7″ screen and it just seems too small. I’d be interested in your opinion and thoughts. Do you watch movies on your smartphone device? Is this Netflix app something that you’d take advantage of?

Ilium’s eWallet Coming Soon for Windows Phone 7

http://blog.iliumsoft.com/2010/10/1…indows-phone-7/

“With the official Windows Phone 7 announcement going out yesterday, I wanted to let you know that we’re working on a version of eWallet for Microsoft’s new mobile OS! eWallet for Windows Phone 7 is designed to perfectly fit the look and feel of the new OS. It takes the best features of eWallet and adapts them to Window Phone 7’s unique interface.”

It’s great to see a long-time Windows Phone developer like Ilium making a commitment to the new platform! What you might be asking yourself is how can a digital wallet program like this work without file sync? By putting a bullet in the head of ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center, Microsoft broke the link between desktop/laptop and your Windows Phone. Given the buggy history of both of those products, some might view that as a good thing – yet, bugs and all, it was important for me as a user to be able to put files onto and pull them off of my device.

The Zune Desktop software allows you to sync media, but not files. This breaks scenarios that are important to some people; I actually stopped using digital wallet software on my Windows Phone because I hated the dysfunction in the desktop sync experience so much, and because I used a hosted Exchange account [affiliate], I get everything I need without having to desktop sync.

So how is Ilium performing this magic if there’s no way for them to sync a wallet file to the phone? They’re mum on the exact method for now (and, yes, I asked), but I think it’s going to be one two ways in my opinion: they’re either going to go via the cloud, or via a desktop software conduit. I really hope it’s the former, and not the latter, because installing a desktop software app to sync one application is a poor solution for a variety of reasons. I’m going to guess that Ilium is going with a cloud-based solution; eWallet will do an encrypted record-level sync with their Web server. This is a flexible solution that makes multi-platform solutions easier, but given the type of ultra-important information people put in their digital wallets, there’s certainly a concern about security. I wonder how Ilium is going to address that?

The relatively unheard of Pantech Duo 2 has made its first appearance on the FCC database. And, as often is the case, some unnamed someone was there to snap some high-resolution pictures of the shiny new device for us to oogle!

Sadly, it seems that the shiny bit is one of the only improvements over the original Pantech Duo: QWERTY, dual band 850/1900, GSM/EDGE/WCDMA (supports AT&T’s 3G network), 2MP camera (with video capture), Bluetooth, microSD… nothing new, really but Windows Mobile 6.1.

HTC expects to ship 3 million Touch Diamonds

Yep – you read that right. HTC is expecting to sell 3 million of their Touch Diamond devices by the end of 2008!

On November 21, HTC CEO Peter Chou said that before the end of the year the company expects to sell up to a million G1 (Android) devices and are expected to hit the 3 million mark with their popular Windows Mobile device, the HTC Touch Diamond.

HTC’s Chou also denied rumours of a pending layoff as well as rumours of decreased orders – proudly proclaiming that HTC was too tough for the global economic recession to weigh down. The company’s condition is so good, in fact, that they’re currently looking at acquiring a handset design company in the US.

Samsung Omnia gets Verizon Wireless brand

In case you had any doubts (I know I didn’t) – the Samsung Omnia will be officially coming to Verizon Wireless.

Alright Verizon Wireless customers, put down the new BlackBerry Storm and hear me out, okay? And, while the real specs are still a mystery, we’re still talking about a 5MP camera/camcorder, full HTML browsing, and an expansive touchscreen.

While the Verizon page is linked to by Samsung’s website, the Verizon page itself doesn’t exist… yet. But it will. Oh yes, it will.

Video: LG Incite unboxing

LG Incite unboxing

The folks at pocketnow have just posted a video of their unboxing of the new and awesome LG Incite.

The LG Incite, as mentioned before, packs a 3″, wide QVGA resolution screen, an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, and of course, HSDPA, FM Radio, WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and all that. Strangely enough, like the HTC Touch HD, the Incite has no D-Pad, but a scrolling wheel on the side. I’m not sure how I feel about that, personally, but the folks at pocketnow find it to be a welcome addition.

What do you thinK? Will the LG Incite stand up against some of the other new and fancy devices like the Fuze (HTC Touch Pro) or the Samsung Omnia?

Officially announced today, Indian Windows Mobile users will soon be able to get their hands on the HTC Touch Pro and the HTC Touch Viva.

These two popular Windows Mobile devices will not be sold by any of the three major Indian mobile operators though (Airtel, Reliance, or Vodafone), it seems, as HTC has partnered with Idea Cellular for the release of these devices.

The HTC Touch Pro will be sold for the retail price of Rs. 34,900 ($708) and will be marketed as the HTC Touch Pro T7276 while the HTC Touch Viva will be available for Rs. 16,490 ($335) and will be called the HTC Touch Viva T2223.

No news yet on when they will go on sale but rumours have them available in the next few weeks.

Alert: Windows Mobile virus on the loose?

Vnunet.com is reporting today about a new mobile virus using an older infection technique to infect Windows Mobile users.

This so-called ‘companion virus’ is attacking users by assuming the identity of an existing file and moving the old file to a different location in your device’s storage. The virus then runs itself when the original file is called, often loading the displaced file after the virus code has been executed.

Researchers at McAfee have examined the virus and are surprised to find this particular infection technique still being used. Researcher Jimmy Shah had this to say:

This was a bit odd since companion viruses used to be more popular in the days of DOS and we haven’t seen too many on newer platforms.

LG Incite gets a listing on AT&T's site

It’s about time! The LG Incite, which was announced over a month ago, is finally showing up on AT&T’s website – in stock and ready to be snatched up!

Sure, it might be bad timing for AT&T to release such a hyped device in the same week as Verizon Wireless launches their much hyped device – the BlackBerry Storm. But I would argue that it’s a great time to show what Windows Mobile has up their sleeve.

The LG Incite is available for $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate (Visa gift card) – not bad at all!

Read on for the LG Incite’s specs
