Microsoft officially launched Windows Mobile 6.5 today along with a flurry of services and brands that should keep us spinning until Windows 7 finally rolls off the shelves this time next year. Along with the new version of Windows Mobile, Microsoft has officially begun using their new “Windows Phone” moniker, much to our pleasure here at thewindowsphone.com ;)
To kick things off, carriers around the world are launching new Windows Phones today. A list of the beauties hitting the markets are follows the jump, but as usual we’re short-shifted here in North America. Europe and Asia have more than dozen new Windows Mobile devices available through carriers and off-plan, NA gets 4.
The good news? The HTC Touch Diamond2 is going to be launching this week in Europe and Asia (and in the US… but only with European bands, sadly). The less-than-good news? Don’t get too excited about the Touch Diamond2, Verizon Wireless customers. Your carrier has just launched… the HTC Touch Diamond. Ouch! Why so behind the times, VW?
The new HTC Touch Diamond combines all the performance and functionality of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with high–tech, innovative TouchFLO 3D Technology on its hi–res touchscreen. View, create, and edit documents in Word and Excel, view PowerPoint and PDF files, filter your Inbox, and stay connected – securely – with your office via ActiveSync or Wireless Sync. Take advantage of Wi–Fi connectivity, Bluetooth Wireless Technology and its 3.2 MP camera with flash and video capture. Use it as a tethered modem with Mobile Broadband Connect (previously named Broadband Access Connect), find your way with VZ Navigator and stay entertained and up to date with Windows Media Player and Visual Voice Mail.
Well, at least now you can see what the first generation Touch Diamonds look like up close and personal. I guess that’s something!
Listen up, Verizon customers! There are some really great deals on now on three awesome Windows Mobile devices!
The Samsung SCH-i760 is on for $150 bucks, the Verizon XV6900 is on for an amazing $70, and my favourite, the Samsung Omnia is on for $99 — not bad at all for a new device! All of these prices are, of course, only valid while supplies last.
What are you waiting for? If I were you, I’d grab up an Omnia while they’re hot, new, and cheap!
Whoa – this just leaked! Some photos have been leaked in the PPCGeeks forums showing the 2009 products from HTC – including a Touch HD for Sprint and Verizon Wireless!
Looks like HTC has a few tricks up their sleeves with this lineup. A QWERTY keyboarded version of the Touch HD? Awesome!

A forum post over at PPC Geeks has just revealed how to go about unlocking the GPS on HTC Touch Pro handsets from Verizon Wireless.
The fix is a beta (I can’t stress that enough) and has no guarantee of not totally messing up your phone, however unlikely. That being said, those of you who are still brave enough (GPS-desperate enough) can check out the thread right here for step by step instructions!
According to some Verizon Wireless users, responses they’ve received from the carrier company addressing GPS related concerns suggest that the company may be removing the virtual lockdown of the GPS capabilities in certain WinMo phones in 2009.
Surprise, surprise! CNET’s Bonnia Cha has recommended the Samsung Omnia (on Verizon Wireless) over the new and much anticipated BlackBerry Storm. Cha says she prefers the Omnia because its operating system is a bit quicker to respond:
Though slightly more expensive, Verizon customers looking for a touch-screen smartphone will get a better user experience and faster performance from the Samsung Omnia than the RIM BlackBerry Storm.
First user manuals and full spec sheets, now official press releases – Verizon Wireless‘ Samsung Omnia is getting a lot of time in the spotlight this week!
Even though the Samsung Omnia is not due to make its official appearance at Verizon Wireless until tomorrow (November 26th, folks!), the full user manual has been leaked! So you can go ahead and take this opportunity to read up on this rockin’ little 5MP, WiFi-runnin’, touchscreen smartphone!
And be sure to check out the above video… it’s an oldie but a goodie, folks. It’s sure to warm your cool-gadget-loving hearts!
