We all knew it would happen eventually – on January 22nd a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the HTC Fuze/Touch Pro was posted over at XDA Developers. Well, surprise surprise – XDA has received a legal complaint from Microsoft! XDA has, of course, pulled all the links for the cooked ROM as well as any other ROMs that are based on the yet-to-be-released operating system.
The e-mails sent to XDA Developers from Microsoft identify the site as ‘distributing unlicensed material and state’,

Attention developers (yeah, yeah ‘Developers! Developers! Developers!’ I can just hear you!)– Microsoft has finally announced some juicy details about the new app store that will be available with Windows Mobile 6.5.
Developers looking to sell their applications through the upcoming Windows Marketplace can look forward to getting 70% of the revenue from the sales of each application though developers can choose to distribute their applications at absolutely no cost or set their own pricing for each market with the Marketplace due to launch in 29 countries initially.
Microsoft will be charging $99/year for registration and then another $99 per application. But for the store’s first year, developers can submit up to five of their applications for free!
More details to come, once Microsoft has finally opened their doors for registration, which is rumoured to be happening sometime this spring.
Looks like there are a slew of awesome WinMo 6.5 phones set to come out this year, according to WMPowerUser.
On top of the previously seen Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, the “Firestone” (above), successor to the once promising Touch HD, runs a 3.6-inch WVGA display, 600MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6.5. According to my sources, this one should be out sometime in August 2009. There’s also the HTC Whitestone which packs a 3.6 inch WVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and has a Qualcomm 7600 processor running at an impressive 528 Mhz. The device will have both GSM and EVDO and debut on the Verizon network in September.
Most impressive to us so far though is the poorly code named HTC “Thoth” which is clearly the Athena successor. The Thoth features a huge 4.8 inch WVGA screen, a 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, Windows Mobile 6.5, of course… but get this: It runs on a Qualcomm 8250 processor at 1000 Mhz! Keep your eyes peeled for this sexy lil thing September 2009!

Thanks to the HTC Twitter feed, we now know that the HTC Touch Pro 2 will be making its way to North America!
The Windows Mobile 6.5 phone, which was shown off last week at MWC in Barcelona to a variety of markets.
And to answer the big question on everyone’s minds, the Touch Pro2 will be broadly available in all major markets, including North America.
Shortly afterward, the HTC Twitter feed provided an additional update, saying:
All, we have not announced a launch date for the Touch Pro2 in any country yet. But we did announce we will start to roll it out late Q2.
The Touch Pro 2 packs a 3.6-inch WVGA TouchFLO 3D display, a tilt-capable screen and a full keyboard. The device also supports a new feature from HTC called Straight Talk, which lets users to set up multi-party conference calls by accessing contact information in the user’s email inbox. The phone, which also sports dual microphones and speakers and doubles as a conference bridge when flipped over, comes complete with a mute button. Nice!
An awesome tipster has just sent me the best leak I’ve seen so far – 30 hi-res WinMo 6.5 screenshots for all of us to ogle!
I’ve generally been of the mind that I was going to look right past WinMo 6.5 and on to WinMo 7 instead but these latest shots are starting to pique my interest in WinMo 6.5! What do you think?
More Windows Mobile 6.5 shots have been leaked today and we’re glad to see that they’re nice and clear albeit not that awe-inspiring. I’m personally glad to see some screen shots that don’t include the terrifying angry peacock background — eeesh!
Let’s hope that Microsoft has more up their sleeves than a facelift of honeycomb tabs and the slightly-goofy-named ‘My Phone‘ application.

Google Sync (beta) has been released for iPhone and Windows Mobile phones! While Symbian and BlackBerry devices have been supported for some time, it’s good to see Windows Mobile now gets to benefit from this awesome application.
Google Sync lets you sync your Google services (Gmail and Google Calendar) with your phone. And the best part? It runs silently in the background backing up your contacts and saving all of your email information. Never lose your contact info again!
Oooh more leaked goodies! An anonymous secret internet agent has sent WMExperts some super spy slides from a Sprint document. The slide details the specs on the upcoming Treo Pro. Also shown are some head to head comparisons to other smartphone offerings from Sprint.
Just to prove Gil Bouhnick wrong, this story will be seen on another mobile blog — this one!
Bouhnick has made the keen (and hilarious) observation that the above WinMo case looks remarkably like Magneto’s helmet. Don’t you think?
On that note, I challenge YOU, fair readers. We want more images like this! Show me what you creative types have got! Found a headset that looks like Geordi La Forge’s visor? Show me! Heck, think spots on your cat look remarkably like a Palm Treo Pro? Prove it!
Whoa – this just leaked! Some photos have been leaked in the PPCGeeks forums showing the 2009 products from HTC – including a Touch HD for Sprint and Verizon Wireless!
Looks like HTC has a few tricks up their sleeves with this lineup. A QWERTY keyboarded version of the Touch HD? Awesome!
Check out our image gallery under the cut for all the oooh and aaah worthy leaks!

Recently I’ve noticed a lot of comments in our forum and abroad with people torn between the Samsung Omnia and the BlackBerry Storm. Personally, I’ve played with both and have to say that while I like the look of the Storm (sleek black with a nice big screen) the Omnia is the clear winner for me. One of the big turn offs for me with the Storm is (though I understand it was supposed to be a major selling point) its SurePress feature (the screen allows the user to navigate through the phone using their fingertip, similar to a computer’s mouse, and “click” the screen by physically pushing down the screen to select.) I’m a double-tap-to-select kinda gal, so it’s just not my style. I have the feeling my fingers would get tired of typing quite quickly on a device like the Storm. Alright, so maybe that’s nit-picky of me but that’s enough to rule it out for me, the text messaging addict. Plus the Omnia comes in 16GB and 8GB versions – cool!
Without further ado, I’ve gone ahead and broken down the specs into an easy to read chart. I hope this helps those of you choose wisely when deciding what device to take home and call your own!
