Here’s another exclusive video from CTIA 2009 of the Samsung Propel Pro – a Windows Mobile 6.1 device featuring a full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, and enterprise applications. The Samsung Propel Pro will be on sale for an expected $149.99 in April (customer’s pay $199.99 and after mail-in rebate, receive $50 AT&T promotion card).
The Samsung Propel Pro will likely be released as part of AT&T’s spring lineup.
Over the weekend my HTC TyTN (aka Hermes) suffered an untimely death.
I felt the phone vibrate and took it out of my pocket to check my new text message when I noticed that the screen was white and unresponsive. I turned the phone on and off again… nothing. I rebooted the phone… nothing. Pulled out the keyboard and pushed it back in again… still nothing. I put it back in my pocket and anxiously tried to ignore it but that didn’t seem to fix it either. Twenty minutes later I pulled it out of my pocket again and – voila! It worked. But as I was replying to my text message, the screen faded to white again.
A quick search of Google later, I discovered that this is a common cause of death among the TyTNs. Apparently there are often problems with the ribbon connector from the mainboard to the screen. I tried several of the non-intrusive tricks I found online — tightening the screws on the back of the screen, loosening the screws on the back of the screen. Nothing. There are several suggestions that one can strip it down gently, clean the connectors and re-attach cables with new tape to better secure the ribbon, but since I am technically still under warranty, I’ll avoid that one. I will bring my phone to Rogers and see if they can resurrect her.
Tell me all about your experiences with untimely phone death! What did you do? How did it happen?
And be sure to read my follow up report, hopefully entitled “How Rogers made my day by resurrecting my HTC TyTN!”
Another exclusive thanks to Nan Palmero – a preview of the HTC Touch Diamond 2.
The HTC Touch Diamond 2 features an improved version of TouchFLO 3D, a better camera, a microSD slot, and a larger battery (hooray! More battery life!).
Another video directly from CTIA 2009 from our own Nan Palmero. This time we’re taking a look at the HTC Snap. HTC says that with the Snap they were trying to keep all the good stuff about the HTC Dash but with bigger keys, same small, smooth frame, integrated volume keys, and a 2MP camera.
Looks great!
Our good friend and contributor Nan Palmero was nice enough to get us a one on one look at the HTC Touch Pro2 at this years CTIA!
I must say, this device looks super impressive to me — larger screen, prettier curves, a tilt screen, much more responsive… I can’t wait to get my hands on one!
Be sure to check out the above video for a complete rundown of the HTC Touch Pro2 straight from CTIA.

Go Canada!
Not only will Bell be offering the Palm Treo Pro and the Samsung Omnia, but now it looks as though Telus will have them too! Though, I wouldn’t celebrate just yet — looks like Telus is going to be charging more than Bell ($20 and $50, respectively) than Bell, and that’s based on signing up for a 3-year contract, too! Eep. I’m betting that there are more than a few of you out there who aren’t happy about that. But being that these devices are oh-so-cool, will you pay anyway?
Let us know what you think!

Just released as a standalone yesterday, Spb TV is a highly usable IP-TV solution, optimized to run on mobile devices. Spb TV provides users with lots of channels in multiple languages with easy-to-use features and settings. No subscription fee!
The now standalone mobile TV solution for Windows Phones, Spb TV was first introduced to the market in September 2008 as the flagship feature of Spb Online. Since then, it has hosted millions of mobile TV sessions. Spb TV is unique in its approach to the mobile TV experience, offering the unexpectedly natural simplicity of watching live TV on a phone. Spb TV goes a long way to support the genuine TV watching behavior on a handset: quick TV guide check-up and channel hopping, on-screen controls for volume and backlight, neat integration of TV functionality with other mobile features (such as messages, calls, and battery life monitoring).

The Samsung SWD-M100 WiMAX MID that was paraded around at the Mobile World Conference was accidentally named earlier today in a post via Samsung’s RSS feed.
The now named Samsung Mondi features a 4.3 inch touchscreen, slide out QWERTY, and — brace yourself — 4G WiMAX via the Clear network (US only, booo!).
Though we don’t know of any of the other specs of the Mondi, we do know that it will be running WinMo, has two cameras (front/back 0.3 and 3 MP respectively), bluetooth, WiFi, the Opera browser, and a microSD slot.
Is the HTC Touch Pro2 headed for T-Mobile? Looks entirely likely!
A leaked ROM over at xda-developers has information included in it that indicates that the Touch Pro2 (code named ‘Rhodium’) will be showing up on T-Mobile in the US.
We’re sure to hear more about this at CTIA, so stay tuned!
Update: Click here to see a live image of the T-Mobile branded HTC Touch Pro2!
Still searching for a decent Facebook application for your WinMo phone? Well, in case you’ve missed this, some developers at XDA have recently supplied a rather awesome Facebook app.
Now, apparently this app is actually made by Microsoft themselves and has been stripped from the yet-to-be-released version of Windows Mobile - 6.5 (Build 21169). That being said, this app is in fact a pre-release version with ‘many known bugs’ (though, I couldn’t personally tell you what those bugs are as I’ve not actually run in to any myself, but see the list of known problems after the jump). I can tell you, I’ve been using it for a bit now and I really love it!
Click here for an overview and screenshots of this Facebook app from XDA!
Are you a developer looking forward to the upcoming Windows Mobile marketplace? Or maybe you’re looking to jump on the .NET development bandwagon. (Whoa, I’m trying to imagine what that bandwagon would look like…)
These Top 8 websites are everything that a Microsoft .NET developer needs!
Could it be true? Listen up, Canadians! A tipster from BGR is reporting that Bell is getting ready to launch the Samsung Omnia in April! Specifically somewhere between April 9th and April 12th.
The Omnia runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and has a 3.2″ 240×400 touchscreen display, and the usual — GPS, WiFi, EVDO Rev. o / Rev. A…
But at the top of the list of cool features for the Omnia is its super cool 5MP camera with autofocus, face detection, smile detection, LED flash, image stabilization and DivX/XviD video playback!
No pricing or launch details confirmed by Bell as of yet, but stay tuned!
