Google are now rolling out an update for Google Talk which will allow free video chat over both WiFi and 3G/4G data connection.
Google have a video below explaining more detail on how it will work. This will be launching on the Nexus S first with other Android 2.3 devices later on.

Sometimes, the expressions on a person’s face can mean much more than what they say. To help you stay in touch with your friends and family, we’re launching Google Talk with video and voice chat for Android phones.
You can now video or voice chat with your friends, family and colleagues right from your Android phone, whether they’re on their compatible Android tablet or phone, or using Gmail with Google Talk on their computer. You can make calls over a 3G or 4G data network (if your carrier supports it) or over Wi-Fi
In your Google Talk friends list, a video or voice chat button will appear next to your contacts and you can simply touch the button to connect with them. Any text chats from the person you’re talking with will be overlaid on your phone’s screen so you can read them without having to leave the video. And, if you need to check something else, the video pauses automatically so you can go back to your phone’s home screen or another app. The audio will keep going even though the video has paused. Check out how this works:
Google Talk with video and voice chat will gradually roll out to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and will launch on other Android 2.3+ devices in the future. To learn more about

Windows Phone 7 on the HTC HD2 ? Yep, you read that right. It’s ever-so-slightly slower but really, you wouldn’t notice. Everything is here. The sounds, the multi-touch, the whole thing, on an existing Windows Mobile 6.5 device.
Now, after the huge fallout from the unofficial microSD upgrade how long will it be before Microsoft says, “Don’t do this either”? And how much longer before someone asks, “Why can’t I upgrade my existing HTC HD2 to Windows Phone 7 then? Well, start the clock..

Over the last few weeks the HTC HD7 has become my introduction into the all-new Windows Phone 7 OS. The very kind people at o2 have loaned us this and the full review is now online.
This is a 4.3″ device so it’s on the “limits” of size acceptance for some but we found a lot to like. The handset has a kick-stand, stereo speakers, a 5 megapixel camera (with HD video recording), 480×800 WVGA multi-touch screen, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, 512MB ROM, 576MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.1 and 1230mAh battery. This o2 version also has 16GB of on-board storage – more than all the Windows Phone 7 devices we’ve seen.
The review contains the usual up-close photos, screenshots and some hands-on videos that you’ve not seen as yet, so dive in on the link below.

UK network Three sell most of their phones on PAYG as well as contract options which is great for anyone who likes the benefits of a sim only package but buy a phone of your choice.
On passing a nearby Three store today I spotted that the Samsung Omnia 7 is also on offer costing £449.99 (as was the HTC Desire HD) which does sound a lot for a phone but when you consider at the moment most Windows Phone 7 devices are contract only with the HTC HD7 being the only other PAYG offering on O2 it is not actually that bad.
Three does not offer this handset on PAYG online yet and you might find some stores try to hold onto stock for a full contract but the pricing is there and the handset is available if you can find a store to sell one to you.
So now who would consider a 12 month sim only ‘One Plan’ for only £25 a month and buying one of these handsets outright?

Arne from theunwired.net has taken a screwdriver to his brand new HTC HD7 and found a microSD card lurking underneath. Microsoft really don’t want you trying to swap these things out and, luckily for UK customers, o2 are sticking a 16GB microSD card in theirs. Microsoft state that microSD cards perform in very different ways with most cards being of “poor quality”.
So yes, there’s probably a microSD card hiding in your Windows Phone 7 phone somewhere and yes, if you’re extremely lucky you might be able to replace it without butchering your phone and bricking the OS. However, Microsoft say no, and we’d have to agree unless you fancy attacking your very expensive new Windows Phone with a knife and some tools, only to end up with a dead phone that won’t boot.

Some Orange stores appear to be getting stock of the HTC Desire HD today. Maaz has emailed in to tells us ..
“I get the impression stores are waiting on stock to arrive today or tomorrow. Stock seems limited though – the main branch in Edinburgh on Princes Street only got 2 in today. Smaller stores outside Edinburgh seem to have good stock and available for collection.”
Let us know if you’ve got one and what you think of it. We’re always keen to see which stores have stock and which are the stores to try. Our personal advice is to try the larger stores first, but do add your comments if you’ve just bagged one of these new Android devices.

Windows Phone 7. We’ve spoken a lot about it of late. My personal feelings are that, after a Service Pack, this could shape up to be a rather brilliant OS in a few months time. We’re in the here and now though, and the fact that you can’t upload ringtones is a little shocking.
Step forward the lovely people at xda-developers who have spotted the fact that you can read and write to the ringtones directory. Well, when we say “you” we actually mean “Apps downloaded from the Marketplace” can write to the ringtone directory. We’re assuming that ringtones will have to be purchased from the Marketplace, or some lovely person will code something to let us access that special ringtones directory and send our own MP3’s across. Just give us a file manager. Go on.
Anyhow, xda-developers aren’t too happy with the new locked-down Microsoft OS, and criticise the lack of customization within the OS.

Yesterday we showed you how ringtones worked in Windows Phone 7. We had a great response but a lot of you wanted us to show “normal” stuff, like making a call and texting people. Today we decided to do just that, with this video giving you a tour of the dialer and the texting system.
It seems that Windows Phone 7 lacks a predictive dial feature. For example, if I want to call “Anthony” I would expect to enter “268″ into the keypad to get his name.. but it doesn’t do anything. Yep, the “smart-dial” from Windows Mobile 6.x is no more and you’re pushed into the “People Hub” to search that way. I kinda miss it. It was a great time-saver.
We did, however, find something rather lovely. The on-board camera on the HTC HD7, HTC 7 Mozart and (presumably) other Windows Phone 7 devices will continually focus as you record. This feature alone means that you can produce some very nice videos in, of course, HD quality.
Click on to see our overview video and example footage from the on-board camera.

Windows Phone 7 apppears to have broken the 1000 app mark today. Meanwhile, Android has hit a similar – if not much bigger – landmark. Google themselves now confirm 100,000 apps, a number which you may have seen some months back. That, though, was a number calculated by Androlib. These more official stats show that there’s a rather large selection of Android apps to choose from.
Back to Windows Phone 7 for a moment though. The first third-party app using a live tile (one that’s acutally.. live) has appeared, plus we’re pretty glad to see one thousand applications to choose from considering how new the OS is.
