Alright – let’s get some conversation going, my dear reader, about the rampant rumours that Microsoft will be getting its own branded phone – Maybe a Zune phone? Maybe something even cooler?
We’ve reported on these rumours a few times, but I’d love to hear what you think!
First user manuals and full spec sheets, now official press releases – Verizon Wireless‘ Samsung Omnia is getting a lot of time in the spotlight this week!
Spb Software created an Spb Mobile Shell-powered touch screen interface for O2 Xda Zest. Designed exclusively for O2’s latest Xda handset, the ‘O2 Menu’ helps to make the device ideal for those subscribers new to the Xda phones. Being a history graduate (go on, make your nerd jokes now), I pride myself as being the Queen of Trivial Knowledge – but even I need a refresher now and again. If I’m lucky enough to be sitting by a computer (which I’ll admit is quite often) the internet has almost every answer I could possibly need in seconds thanks to Wikipedia. But what if I’m not in front of my computer?

WifiLocations is a simple program that will automatically activate WiFi on wifi enabled devices at user-specified locations. You DON’T need GPS! You can add your current location (according to the nearest GSM/UMTS-cellsites {not supported in some zones of the world}) as a location where wifi will be activated automatically. This is quite useful for people who want to activate voip over wifi whenever a wifi internet network is available.
Noteworthy: It will not start after installing the cab-file. You need to start it yourself. Before you can use the app, you’ll need to add locations… sorry – all the free-hotspot-searching is up to you!
Even though the Samsung Omnia is not due to make its official appearance at Verizon Wireless until tomorrow (November 26th, folks!), the full user manual has been leaked! So you can go ahead and take this opportunity to read up on this rockin’ little 5MP, WiFi-runnin’, touchscreen smartphone!

The relatively unheard of Pantech Duo 2 has made its first appearance on the FCC database. And, as often is the case, some unnamed someone was there to snap some high-resolution pictures of the shiny new device for us to oogle!
Sadly, it seems that the shiny bit is one of the only improvements over the original Pantech Duo: QWERTY, dual band 850/1900, GSM/EDGE/WCDMA (supports AT&T’s 3G network), 2MP camera (with video capture), Bluetooth, microSD… nothing new, really but Windows Mobile 6.1.
You’re right – I’ve already posted a how-to on connecting your WinMo phone to your laptop (see “How-to: Internet Sharing – love between a laptop and a Windows Mobile phone“) but many people are still confused as to how to get this up and running. The above video outlines the steps needed to turn your smartphone (the video uses a Samsung Jack Windows Mobile phone) into a wireless modem via Bluetooth. Remember the Motorola Atila? Motorola’s proposed answer to the iPhone 3G? Well, now that all the buzz has died down (as is the way with so many devices these days), new spy shots have been released as a reminder that this device will actually be coming out… someday.
According to some rumours started by the Inquirer today (ignore their linked ‘video proof’ as it’s clearly a joke), Microsoft is in the final stages of building a phone – the first of its own brand – that will rely on performance to drive sales. They’re allegedly developing a phone that uses one of NVIDIA’s Tegra processors. This processor (likely the APX 2500 chip) would theoretically give the Microsoft device 720p video playback and advanced 3D visuals that no other smartphone on the market has, to date.
Yep – you read that right. HTC is expecting to sell 3 million of their Touch Diamond devices by the end of 2008!
On November 21, HTC CEO Peter Chou said that before the end of the year the company expects to sell up to a million G1 (Android) devices and are expected to hit the 3 million mark with their popular Windows Mobile device, the HTC Touch Diamond.
HTC’s Chou also denied rumours of a pending layoff as well as rumours of decreased orders – proudly proclaiming that HTC was too tough for the global economic recession to weigh down. The company’s condition is so good, in fact, that they’re currently looking at acquiring a handset design company in the US.

In case you’ve forgotten (I dare you to tell me you’re from Russia but have forgotten!), the HTC Max 4G will be available for the Russian WiMAX network “Scartel” (Yota) on November 26th it’ll be the worlds first ever integrated GSM / WiMAX handset. The network will enable a rich multimedia experience and a high quality telephone connection. It’s currently sitting on the HTC website just waiting its turn.

I know plenty of you were less-than-impressed with the news of a new version of Internet Explorer Mobile (6), but it’s worth reporting that as per ZDNet’s announcement, it looks like China will be the first to put Mobile IE 6 onto a Windows Mobile device. Specifically, it will be the Chinese version of the Samsung Omnia to take the first hit get the first native install. Who’s next?

Alright Verizon Wireless customers, put down the new BlackBerry Storm and hear me out, okay? And, while the real specs are still a mystery, we’re still talking about a 5MP camera/camcorder, full HTML browsing, and an expansive touchscreen.
While the Verizon page is linked to by Samsung’s website, the Verizon page itself doesn’t exist… yet. But it will. Oh yes, it will.

Bell today announced new Smartphone Combo Plans that provide Bell Mobility clients across Canada with 25% more minutes than competitor smartphone plans!

AOL has just announced the availability of AOL Sync for beta testing!
AOL Sync allows users to sync up Microsoft Outlook and their AOL Calendar and Address Book with a wide range of mobile devices, including (and, of course, most importantly) Windows Mobile!
It offers two-way “over the air” synchronization so users can make real-time updates to their calendar and list of contacts over the cell network.

The program works with the Samsung Omnia and HTC Touch Diamond GSensor to set off the “Jump” or “Coin” 8-bit Mario game sounds when you jump in real life.
The file includes the theme song to Super Mario Bros too so you can set it as your ringtone!
Alltel has jumped on the bandwagon and added the HTC Touch Pro to their smartphone line up. The popular device is going for $279.99 (on contract, of course) with a $100 rebate.
Not many differences with this version but a tweak to the TouchFLO 3D UI from the carrier.

The folks at pocketnow have just posted a video of their unboxing of the new and awesome LG Incite.
The LG Incite, as mentioned before, packs a 3″, wide QVGA resolution screen, an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, and of course, HSDPA, FM Radio, WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and all that. Strangely enough, like the HTC Touch HD, the Incite has no D-Pad, but a scrolling wheel on the side. I’m not sure how I feel about that, personally, but the folks at pocketnow find it to be a welcome addition.
What do you thinK? Will the LG Incite stand up against some of the other new and fancy devices like the Fuze (HTC Touch Pro) or the Samsung Omnia?
