Not many of us think about all the juice it takes to keep our calls and data flowing through the network, but Helix Wind does, and they’re promoting its new wind-powered cell towers. I know I’ve often found myself in the middle of the woods cursing the lack of signal, with very little though as to how they’d power it if the telcos ever took steps to address my concerns. Luckily, there’s Helix Wind.
Helix’s wind-turbine-powered cell towers are designed to both cut down on cell tower operating costs and lower the CO2 footprint of the mobile use. Trials are beginning this November in both the US and in Africa, which I think is a terrific spot to start – have you ever wondered how you lay copper lines to millions of mud huts?
