Review: Ringo Mobile by Electric Pocket

What is Ringo Mobile?

I was really hoping for greatness with this program and got everything I expected and more. Ringo lets you easily add the awesome raw power of MP3, WMA or WAV format ringtones to every call tone on your device. You can use your favourite music or sound clip as a ringtone – just copy it to your WinMo phone and select it from Ringo’s easy-to-use interface. In addition, Ringo provides an easy way to set and change ringtones and SMS tones for your friends – just pick from a list of the contacts in your address book is listed. Each friend you set up can have a unique MP3, WMA, Wav or Midi ring and SMS tone.

System/OS/Device Requirements – Windows Mobile 5.0 – 6.1
Price - $24.95 right here in the WindowsMobile Cool store!
Company - Electric Pocket
Download - WindowsMobile Cool store

Install/Setup:

1. Download Ringo Mobile from the WindowsMobile Cool store.

2. Choose which download method you prefer. I chose .EXE because… well, I just did. I always forget to take the old .CAB files off my device and then it gets all cluttery. I prefer to clutter up my desktop. My co-workers can attest to that!

3. Choose your operating system.  I run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, but Ringo Mobile seems to work just fine with the “Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6″ installation.

4. Install! It’s really quick. Done before you know it! Get a coffee, listen to about 30 seconds of American Pie. That’s what I did.

5. Note: You must install Ringo on to the main device – it cannot be installed on a storage device. You will get this error message:

6. Head over to your device’s Programs folder and find ‘Ringo’ (icon shown below).

7. Ringo’s interface (as shown below) will load and allow you to hit the ‘Pick’ buttons and choose the files you would like to set for both the ringtone (incoming calls) and the messages (SMS).

8. Have a certain contact that you’d like to have a special ringtone for to distinguish them from the rest of your contacts? You can assign a separate sound file for that contact in the second tab of the Ringo interface (as shown below).

9. You can do the same for certain groups as well. Navigate to the third tab in Ringo’s interface and you will find Ringo Groups where you’ll have a choice between Frequently Called, Personal, Unidentified, and Unknown.

PROs/CONs:

I really didn’t find any cons to Ringo Mobile.  It did exactly what I hoped it would do and never failed. I have very high expectations for apps that require me to use that precious bit of free space I have left on my WinMo device’s main memory, and Ringo Mobile passed the test. It will stay loaded on my device as a permanent, frequently used feature.

Final Conclusion:

If it’s not entirely clear yet – I love it! If you’re looking for an all-encompassing ringtone/sms tone manager then you can’t get better than Ringo Mobile. It did everything I wanted it to — I can now tell who’s calling me without even looking at the phone. And those gazillion text messages I get in an hour are easier to deal with when I can listen for the tell-tale tones of importance.
