How-to: Getting Internet Sharing to work on your AT&T Fuze, Sprint Touch Pro, HTC Touch Diamond, and Samsung Epix!

Two awesome hacks from XDA-Developers in one day! Woo hoo!

This time one that allows you to ‘enable’ (read: re-enable) Internet Sharing on your HTC Touch Diamond, Sprint Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro) and the Samsung Epix!

Now, this is a registry key edit so use at your own risk as we’re never 100% sure of how these things will turn out sometimes.. but if you’re desperate for Internet Sharing (or brave and up for a challenge) try out this trick…

First off, you’ll need a registry editor like Total Commander. Then you’ll need to delete the entire key, not just the value, which does something different depending on the value assigned) in this modification. You will want to delete ForceCellConnection, which is found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings.

Restart your device and… voila! Let us know how it works out for you!

  1. Is there a screen shot available? I’m having a problem locating the file on my epix. I have an unlimited data plan and would like to use this feature.

    Hi Jeremy!

Let me search for something and I’ll get right back to you!

  3. catchpen says:

    Hey Jeremy,
If you’re using Total Commander the way to get to the registry is type “///” in the TC’s address bar. 3 folders should come up and 1 should be named registry. Open that then there is 3 more folders.
It’s in the HKLM folder. I just tried it on my Epix and it’s Internet Sharing is working via Bluetooth to my laptop.

    Thanks!
    C.P.

  10. fredo says:

will this work on the treo 800w?

  11. Lynn says:

I got this to work fine; but the details left out is you must create a network connection.
A dial up connection connecting through whatever com port is defined for your device when you installed the generic serial driver.
I see “Modem – HTC USB Modem (COM15)

Now; I don’t know where this came from; I think from a previous attempt to get my motorola phone working; there was already a dial up connector there. (Actually I think my Motorola phone tools created it; nevertheless, it has the number there in its connection, I used it in my new connection and it dialed right up!
*99***3# (I don’t even know why the dialing is needed; but it works and I’m not touching it until I understand what its doing!)

  12. Bill says:

I got this to work and surfing speeds are right around broadband. A couple of things to assist those less apt to get the workaround functional. I had some difficulty finding the registry, but catchpen above spells it out clearly: simply use the keyboard to fill in the folder “///” at the top of Total Commander. After reboot, open the Internet Sharing and a new drop-down menu is available. You must select MEdia Net in order to use the connection the way this how-to intends. Already helped setup on three phones and it works great. Thanks for the post, Bambi Blue!

  13. Bill says:

Sorry, forgot to include the above info is for an AT&T phone (HTC-FUZE).
